It’s time for another annual golf betting favorite with the Shriners Children’s Open at TPC Summerlin in Las Vegas.

Going low is the name of the game this week. Four of the past five winners have been 20-under-par or lower. Martin Laird’s 23-under-par 261 wasn’t even good enough to win in regulation, with Laird beating Austin Cook and Matthew Wolff in a playoff.

Brooks Koepka is the slight betting favorite at sportsbooks in his first tournament since Team USA’s blowout Ryder Cup win over Europe at Whistling Straits. Koepka is +1600 for the week on betting sites, while Webb Simpson, Louis Oosthuizen and Abraham Ancer are right behind him at +2000.

Viktor Hovland rounds out the top five at +2200, and two-time Shriners winner Kevin Na isn’t far behind at +2500.

Shriners Children’s Open Expert Pick

Patrick Reed Top-5 Finish

Odds: +800 at DraftKings

We’ll be taking a long look at Patrick Reed on our sports betting app entering his first tournament since the Tour Championship.

Reed has only played this tournament twice, most recently withdrawing in 2014 after just one round due to injury. That’s a little surprising considering how well this course figures to suit his style. Reed’s weakest club is probably the driver and there’s not a big emphasis on crushing it off the tee this week. We love how his short game fits the course and any accuracy issues with the driver won’t be punished as much on this friendly desert layout.

Mostly, we love that Reed will have an even bigger chip on his shoulder at TPC Summerlin. This is the first time he’s played since Team USA Ryder Cup captain Steve Stricker opted to leave him at home and use his picks on other guys. Everything worked out great for the Americans in Wisconsin, but you know Reed wants to go out this week and try to prove that he should have been on the roster regardless.

The golf odds are pretty solid here with Reed flying under the radar, and we’re on him for a top-5 finish this week in Las Vegas.

Shriners Children’s Open Betting Tips

This is a straightforward TPC course. Players usually have a good shot at par even after a big miss off the tee, as driving accuracy and driving distance likely won’t be the deciding factors.

Players that do well here need to be on point around the greens. Scoring is always low and guys know they’ll need to make a ton of birdie putts and clutch up-and-downs in order to have a chance.

We’re looking at guys like Reed with crisp wedge games and the ability to get hot with the putter. We’ve also got plenty to go on with course history after so many years, including Tiger Woods’ first PGA Tour win in 1996.

Overall, we’re looking for players with strong short games who won’t shy away from a birdie fest.
