The opening weekend of Arizona sports betting lived up to the hype, with millions of transactions placed in the state.

That’s the takeaway from sportsbooks in Arizona, as well as the Arizona Department of Gaming and geolocation security company GeoComply, which said that Arizona had the fourth-most transactions of any state during the weekend. The first full weekend of NFL betting had a lot to do with it.

GeoComply Managing Director of Gaming Lindsay Slader said in a news release that states like Arizona showed lots of pent-up demand for sports betting during the opening weekend of the 2021 NFL season, with 58.2 million transactions across 18 states and the District of Columbia. There were 6.1 million transactions in Arizona during the timeframe.

Arizona ranked behind New Jersey (12.5 million), Pennsylvania (11.5 million) and Michigan (7.5 million), in terms of total transactions, many of which were made on sports betting apps over the weekend.

“Preparing for this NFL season has been a process that began before the end of last season, and we expected high volumes, but what we have seen has surprised us nonetheless,” Slader said in the release. “The level of demand across new markets, such as Arizona, indicates that consumers have long waited for the option to legally place a sports bet.

“The data tells a remarkable story about the growth of the industry in a short period of time. This success is a credit to all our clients and state regulators, who have worked tirelessly to prepare for the start of the new NFL season.”

A Promising Start in Arizona

A spokesperson from Las Vegas-based WynnBET told Bookies.com that the opening weekend of operations in Arizona was a smashing success.

Seth Medvin said in an email that the operator has been thrilled with what it's seen from bettors since sports betting launched at 12:01 a.m. local time Thursday. WynnBET offered a promotion that tripled the Cardinals-Titans line to +9 for Arizona bettors. The promotion had a maximum bet of $20. “WynnBET was proud to deliver its product and service to Arizona patrons this past weekend, and we’re looking forward to continuing our relationship with players in the state,” Medvin said.

The takeaway from the Arizona Department of Gaming was just as rosy, with Public Information Officer Maxwell Hartgraves saying the opening weekend went well, with no issues raised from operators to the department.

Interesting Bets Placed in Arizona

Of the operators that responded, WynnBET was the only one to make note of noteworthy parlay bets that were placed.

Medvin said two parlays stood out this weekend, both of which were $200 bets using free bonuses for new users.

One of the parlays was a five-team moneyline underdog (+8671) bet on the Cincinnati Bengals, Philadelphia Eagles, Arizona Cardinals, Houston Texans and New Orleans Saints - which paid out $17,395 to the bettor.

The other was a seven-team moneyline parlay (+6700) on the San Francisco 49ers, Kansas City Chiefs, Miami Dolphins, Los Angeles Rams, New Orleans Saints, Arizona Cardinals and Los Angeles Chargers, paying out $13,385.37 to the bettor.

Monday Night Football Action

Bettors in Arizona still have Monday Night Football to wager on, with the Baltimore Ravens and Las Vegas Raiders battling it out at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.

The Raiders are four-point underdogs (-110) at DraftKings Sportsbook and BetMGM Sportsbook, while FanDuel has Jon Gruden’s team at +3.5 (-108).

For those looking to place a moneyline wager on Monday’s showdown, DraftKings has the Raiders at +175, while BetMGM has them at +160 and FanDuel Sportsbook has Las Vegas at +164. If you favor the favorite, you can snag the Ravens at -210 on DraftKings, -189 on BetMGM and -196 at FanDuel.
