Until this season, the thought of Bill Belichick ever coaching anywhere but New England seemed the stuff of fantasy. But the Patriots finished just 4-13, their worst such start since Robert Kraft bought the team in 1994, and the coach's worst mark in 28 years as a head coach at New England and Cleveland.

The team and coach made it official on the morning of Jan. 11, announcing that Belichick would not be coaching the Pats for 2024. There's a six-time Super Bowl winning coach on the free agent market.

Belichick has been “linked” to nearly a dozen teams by both credible and incredible sources on social media, digital media, print and broadcast.

Belichick is closing in on the record for most regular season wins and losses by an NFL head coach. He’s moved much closer to the later this season. Belichick is 302-161. He needs 25 more victories to tie Don Shula for the top spot in wins at 328. He also moved into a tie Dan Reeves and Jeff Fisher at 165 for the most losses by a coach.

Bill Belichick's Next Team Odds?

Tom Brady last week said he could never imagine Belichick coaching anywhere but New England.

"He's the best coach, in my belief, in the history of the game, so I don't know. The thought of him not being in New England is hard for me to think about," Brady said.

Well, he may be alone these days on that front. Here are the latest odds for Belichick’s team in 2024.

Bill Belichick’s 2024 Team Odds

Team Odds Implied Probability
Atlanta Falcons +250 28.6%
Washington Commanders +300 25.0%
Los Angeles Chargers +500 16.7%
Las Vegas Raiders +650 13.3%
Tennessee Titans +1200 7.7%
Carolina Panthers +1750 5.4%
Chicago Bears +2000 4.8%
The Field/Retire +850 10.5%

Belichick is reportedly under contract in New England at least through 2024. The Patriots won’t fire him outright when they can get draft capital in return. Kraft and Belichick could work out a deal to make his exit less of strain financially. Or they could enter a Cold War not seen since the fall of the Berlin Wall.

Bill Belichick 2024 Team-By-Team Breakdown

Bill Belichick 2024 Team Odds: Bill & The Patriots Officially Split 1

Atlanta Falcons +250

The Falcons are trending into a possible destination for Belichick, with both sides seeking fresh starts in 2024 – even if the fresh start involves a 71-year-old leader. Atlanta isn't far away from being a true contender after going 7-10 for three-straight seasons, with weapons and playmakers on both sides of the ball. A Belichick-guided Falcons team could immediate vault into favorite status in a winnable NFC South.

Washington Commanders +300

This reporter first linked Belichick to the Commanders in October. The fit in the Nation’s Capital would be a natural for Belichick, who was born and raised in Maryland. Commanders owner Josh Harris founded Apollo Global Management and has more money than Zeus. Ron Rivera fired his defensive coordinator after Washington's 45-10 Thanksgiving Day loss, and Rivera himself was shown the door on Black Monday. Harris needs to make a major splash in 2024. Bringing in Belichick would do it.

Los Angeles Chargers +500

Brandon Staley is gone. The Bolts came into Foxboro and beat the Patriots 6-0 in Week 13. Staley this season has failed to further evelop QB Justin Herbert, Belichick would likely have complete control of the football operation in LA, something he would likely covet.

Las Vegas Raiders +650

In Sin City, Belichick would be taking over his former offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels. Like Tepper, Raiders owner Mark Davis is spending millions on his former coaches. Belichick has spoken reverently about Al Davis and the role of the Raiders in NFL history. Belichick’s chosen heir apparent for Tom Brady a decade ago, QB Jimmy Garoppolo, is resting on the bench in Vegas. Another case is where the money will be right if there is a way.

Tennessee Titans +1200

Belichick would be replacing one of his former players, Mike Vrabel, as Titans head coach. It’s unlikely Vrabel will be coaching in Tennessee next season. There is a slight possibility that Belichick and Vrabel could end up switching roles. The Titans don’t have much in the cupboard, and at 71, Belichick is unlikely to walk into a complete rebuild.

Carolina Panthers +1750

Carolina owner David Tepper goes through coaches like Belichick goes through hoodies. Tepper, too, has unlimited cash to spend on his coaches. Like Harris, Tepper would tempt Belichick with complete control over the football operation.

And he has a former No. 1 overall pick at QB in Bryce Young. But Belichick might not want to take the bait given Tepper’s recent track record. He wants to buy all the groceries and won't stand for being second-guessed by anyone, no matter the size of the checkbook.

Chicago Bears +2000

The Bears are all but guaranteed the No. 1 pick in the 2024 NFL draft thanks to the deal they made with the Panthers last April in trading that No. 1 pick to Carolina. That’s a tempting jewel to lure any potential head coach/GM. Belichick would undoubtedly want to deal that pick and load on third-rounders. The Halas Family carries some allure for an NFL veteran like Belichick. But money talks louder.

The Field/Retire +850

If you listen long enough, you’ll hear Belichick’s name linked to all 31 NFL teams that aren’t the Patriots. That includes the Dallas Cowboys

Retirement isn't out of the question. Belichick has nothing left to prove. He could make millions with a move into the broadcast booth. Or just live the good life in Nantucket.
