A prime-time win Sunday night over the New England Patriots that included some scintillating plays has put Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson near the front of the NFL MVP race.

Jackson is trying to duplicate Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes’ feat of winning the award in his second NFL season and first full season as a starter. Mahomes opened this season as the big favorite in NFL MVP Odds and was a factor until he was injured three weeks ago.

That has opened the door for Jackson and others. The Heisman Trophy winner from Louisville has made a major odds leap in recent weeks. He now has the second-lowest betting odds at FanDuel behind Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson. Jackson is +320. At 888sport, Jackson also has the second-lowest odds, behind Wilson, at +350. Wilson is plus +270 at FanDuel and plus +250 at 888sport.

Jackson Passes Rodgers, Watson

Jackson, who was down to 8-1 at most sportsbooks going into last week, bypassed Green Bay Packers superstar quarterback Aaron Rodgers and Houston Texans gunslinger Deshaun Watson. Jackson’s eye-popping performance in Week 9 against the mighty Patriots moved him up in the field. The Ravens dominated previously unbeaten New England, which had been playing historic defense this season.

Jackson, 22, completed 17 of 23 pass attempts for 163 yards and a touchdown, and ran for 61 yards against New England. He was named AFC Offensive Player of the Week for his performance. Jackson has completed 64.3 percent of his passes and thrown for 1,813 yards and 12 touchdowns this season. He also has 637 rushing yards, averaging 6.54 yards per rush and 79.6 yards per game. Jackson has five rushing touchdowns.

Teams have no idea how to defend Jackson. The single-season rushing record by an NFL quarterback is 1,039 yards by Michael Vick of the Atlanta Falcons in 2006. Jackson is on pace to rush for 1,273 yards this season.

If Jackson can set that record and throw for more than 4,000 yards, and the 6-2 Ravens go on to win the AFC North, Jackson will have a serious shot at winning the MVP award.

Jackson would have offered unreal MVP odds value at +10000 when most sportsbooks opened those odds. Now, he is the second-biggest betting favorite.

Ravens Odds Improve Too

Naturally, the Ravens’ odds in Super Bowl betting have dramatically lowered along with Jackson’s MVP award odds. The Ravens were a 40-1 longshot prior to the season at most sportsbooks. Today, they are priced at 10-1, which is tied with the Chiefs for the fourth-lowest.

Expect Jackson’s and the Ravens’ odds to continue to lower if the young quarterback continues to dominate both in the air and on the ground.
