The NFL takes us to the brink of 2024 in Week 17 of the NFL betting season with a loaded schedule on New Year’s Eve.

What better way to end 2023 than with a full day of NFL betting?

The penultimate week of the season delivers multiple matchups that should help to clear the playoff picture.

Home field and the top seed in the AFC could well be determined Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. on CBS when the Miami Dolphins visit the Baltimore Ravens.

The teams entered Week 16 separated by just one game in the standings with Baltimore at 11-3 and the Dolphins at 10-4. Miami faces a crucial road test in the chilly and hostile environment of Baltimore’s M&T Bank Stadium. Elsewhere in the AFC, the Bengals visit the Chiefs in the late national CBS window. Kansas City could be in a position to clinch the AFC West with a win. The Bengals will be trying to claw their way to a Wild Card spot.

The lone game on Saturday features a crucial NFC matchup as the Lions visit the Cowboys. This game could be a matchup of division leaders battling for playoff position.

There’s no letup in the brutality of the Thursday night schedule as the Jets visit Cleveland.

The Deca-Box will push the limits of RedZone technology as there are 10 games in the early Sunday time slot. The Packers visit Minnesota on Sunday night.

2023 NFL Week 17 Best Bets To Back Today

Thursday, Dec. 28

New York Jets at Cleveland Browns, 8:15 p.m. (Prime Video)

Buzz: 2024 can’t get here fast enough. Joe Flacco - who played for the Jets last season - is in "elite" form and appears poised to deliver a potential playoff-clinching win for the Browns. This is a lopsided battle of backup quarterbacks. Trevor Siemian became the 60th different QB to start his season - tying the all-time record set last year. He led the Jets in a thrilling come-from-behind win over the Commanders. But the Jets whiffed on the -3 line. Siemian will have such luck this week in Cleveland. The Browns defense should dominate. This line has moved from Cleveland -6 to -7.5. Buy the half-point at DraftKings.

Best Bet: Browns -7 (-122) with DraftKings Sportsbook

Saturday, Dec. 30

NFL Week 17 Picks, Betting Predictions & Bets To Back: New Year’s Eve Edition 2

Detroit Lions at Dallas Cowboys, 8:15 p.m. (ESPN)

Buzz: Potential NFC playoff matchup. The Cowboys can't shoot straight on the road, but have been dominant at home. They've won 15 straight at Jerry World. And 10 of the past 12 games have gone over the total. But with the 49ers getting crushed by Baltimore on Monday night, Detroit is now tied with San Francisco and Philly with 4 losses. The Lions are now clawing at home field and first-round bye. And they've won 3 of 4. Dallas may find a win way to win here at home - again - but the Lions getting 6.5 points 6.5 (in Week 17 even on the road is too good to pass up. (See Baltimore Monday night.)

Best Bet: Lions +6.5 (-108) with DraftKings Sportsbook

Sunday, Dec. 31

NFL Week 17 Picks, Betting Predictions & Bets To Back: New Year’s Eve Edition 1

Miami Dolphins at Baltimore Ravens, 1 p.m. (CBS)

Buzz:. The Ravens can clinch homefield in the AFC and a first-round bye with a win. With a week to play in the season. Baltimore has enjoyed an unhearalded run this season. Hiding out of the Taylor Swift-Brock Purdy spot light to emerge as the class of the NFL. Lamar Jackson should be the MVP if the Ravens snag top see in the AFC.  He'd be the best player on the best team. Sounds like an MVP to me. The Dolphins are sputtering, even though the beat the Cowboys with a last-second field goal at home Sunday. The Ravens have won 5 straight overall, 9 of 10, and covered in 8 of 9 games against teams with a winning record. Great teams cover, indeed.

Best Bet: Ravens -3 (-110) with DraftKings Sportsbook

New England Patriots at Buffalo Bills, 1 p.m. (CBS)

Buzz: The Patriots won their Super Bowl on Christmas Eve, beating the Broncos in Denver with a field goal at the gun. "Geroge" Bailey Zappe is having a wonderful life of late. And he could well be playing himself into consideration for the starting job next season depending on what New England does in the draft. The Bills, however, have won 3 straight and are putting it all together to be a playoff threat. The Patriots have won at Buffalo only once since Tom Brady retired. The Patriots beat Buffalo 29-25 earlier this season, so the Bills won't be looking past this one and have won 8 straight at home against the AFC East. And the Patriots have failed to cover in their last four games as road dogs in the AFC East.

Best Bet: Bills -12 (-110) with DraftKings Sportsbook

Atlanta Falcons at Chicago Bears, 1 p.m. (CBS)

Buzz: Both teams won in Week 16. The Falcons are in contenion in the NFC South, but they remain on the outside looking in to the postseason. The Bears have a long-shot road to the postseaosn, but they are trying to figure out a formula for 2024. And Matt Ebeflus may well be coaching for his job, if it hasn't already been lost. The home teams get the edge in points here, and the edge in play. All of the trend lines point in Atlanta's direction. But the Falcons will be playing in their worst weather conditions of the year, as they nest at home indoors. And they have landed south of the total in 8 of 9 when playing on the road as underdogs,

Tennessee Titans at Houston Texans, 1 p.m. (FOX)

Buzz: The Texans are in the hunt for a playoff spot in the AFC. But they were lit up by Joe Flacco and the Browns in Week 16. Houston's offense is moribund without C.J. Stroud, who was out due to concussion protocol. Case Keenum didn't last long against Cleveland before he got yanked for Davis Mills.  The status of injured rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud due to a concussion looms  large here. Six of the last seven games between the Titans and Texans at NRG Stadium have gone over the total. With Stroud back, this should make it 7 of 8 since these teams are averaging 49.5 PPG combined.

Best Bet: Over 42.5 Points (-110) with DraftKings Sportsbook

Las Vegas Raiders at Indianapolis Colts, 1 p.m. (CBS)

Buzz: The Raiders won their Super Bowl in Week 16 with a win over Taylor Swift, Travis Kelce, and the Chiefs on Christmas Day in Kansas City. And they beat the Swifties 20-14 without scoring an offensive touchdown and without completing a single pass in the first quarter. That performance came a week after they demolished the Chargers 63-21 on a Thursday night. What's next? Kicking 8 field goals in a 24-0 win?  No matter, Antonio Pierce deserves consideration for "Coach of the Year" honors after taking over for Josh McDaniels in Week 10. The Colts need some (Gardner) Minshew magic to keep their playoff hopes alive after a gutting 29-10 Week 16 loss to the Falcons. Given the Raiders ability to win without scoring, and the Colts inability to score, we'll ride with the under here.

Carolina Panthers at Jacksonville Jaguars, 1 p.m. (CBS)

Buzz: This is why you should have your cats spayed or neutered. These teams combined have lost 7 of their last 8 games. Two No. 1 overall QBs are expected to play here: Bryce Young for Carolina and Trevor Lawrence for Jacksonville. But Lawrence has been banged up and down his body of late. The Jaguars are riding a 4-game losing streak both straight-up and against the spread. But they remain in first place in the AFC South. And they need this one. At home. They should pounce here. Especially with the line under a touchdown.

Best Bet: Jaguars -6.5 (-110) with DraftKings Sportsbook

Los Angeles Rams at New York Giants, 1 p.m. (FOX)

Buzz: Will they still be giving away chicken cutlets in the MetLife parking lot now that Tommy DeVito's been benched? The Rams are the biggest upside surprise in the NFC this season. Oddsmakers set their season win total at 6.5 and had them at +292 to make the playoffs before Week 1. LA is now 8-7 and will be a wild card team if it wins out. Matthew Stafford is playing like the QB who won the Super Bowl two years ago. This one could get ugly early for Big Blue. Think "BIG BOO" in the Monday tabloids.

Best Bet: Rams -6.5 (-110) with DraftKings Sportsbook

Arizona Cardinals at Philadelphia Eagles, 1 p.m. (FOX)

Buzz: One too many avian species. The Cardinals have lost 10 of 11 on the road. But we don't do -530 moneylines here. It's not allowed. The Eagles are always a tricky cover at home. They are just 2-3-2 on the line at the Linc this season. This line has shrunk from 11.5 to 9.5. So bettors are aware of Philly's woes on the line at home. Both teams lost in Week 16, but that was good for the Cardinals who need just one more loss to lock in a top-three draft pick. The Eagles fell flat in Seattle, but they'll be back home. And they could well need this one to hold their lead over Dallas in the NFC East. If the Eagles can get their offense in gear early, look for a blowout.

Best Bet: Eagles -9.5 (-110) with DraftKings Sportsbook

New Orleans Saints at Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 1 p.m. (FOX)

Buzz: A win here could keep the NFC South title in Tampa Bay. The Buccaneers are playing their best ball of the season of late. The Saints, not so much. Tampa Bay followed up a win at Green Bay with a rout of Jacksonville at home on Christmas Eve. Baker Mayfield should contend for "Comeback Player of the Year" honors given that he played for 3 teams last season and could have the Buccaneers back in the playoffs as NFC South champs, and 2 games over .500, with a week to play in the season. Tampa Bay beat New Orleans earlier this season 25-9. Fire the cannons!

Best Bet: Buccaneers -3 (-110) with DraftKings Sportsbook

San Francisco 49ers at Washington Commanders, 1 p.m. (FOX)

Buzz: The week’s biggest early line at 13.5 points.  It didn't move after the 49ers got smoked at home by Baltimore Monday night. Brock Purdy got banged up by the Ravens but should play Sunday. This is a get-right game for the 49ers offense. And they need it. The Commanders have appeared to move on from Sam Howell to Jacoby Brissett at starting QB. That won't be enough in this one.

Best Bet: 49ers -13.5 (-110) with DraftKings Sportsbook

Pittsburgh Steelers at Seattle Seahawks, 4:05 p.m. (FOX)

Buzz: Another Week 17 matchup with monster playoff implications for both teams. Geno Smith may have saved his job and the Seahawks' playoff hopes with a masterful game-winning, TD drive in Week 16 to beat the Titans. The Steelers turned to Mason Rudolph on Christmas Eve Eve. Rudolph's nose shone bright and blinded the Bengals in a 34-11 rout. The favorites have won 12 of Seattle's past 13 games. We'll lean toward the Seahawks at home.

Best Bet: Seahawks -3 (-124) with DraftKings Sportsbook

Los Angeles Chargers at Denver Broncos, 4:25 p.m. (CBS)

Buzz: The Chargers are on to 2024. The Broncos are sitll alive despite losing to the Patriots on Christmas Eve. Russell Wilson and Sean Payton have a get-right opportunity here and they should be able to take advantage.

Best Bet: Broncos -5.5 (-110) with DraftKings Sportsbook

Cincinnati Bengals at Kansas City Chiefs, 4:25 p.m. (CBS)

Buzz: Two wanna-be playoff teams are looking to rebound in this rematch of last season's AFC Championship Game. The Swifties will have to shake it off after a Christmas Day loss to a Raiders team that didn't score an offensive TD. The Bengals, meanwhile, went up against a guy named Rudolph two days before Christmas. They never had a chance. The Chiefs had their two-game losing streak already this season and have won 12 of 13 after a loss. Kansas City's defense has been one of the big untold stories of the NFL this season. We'll lean on the under here.
