The Seattle Seahawks have been highly competitive for more than a decade. Over the last 12 years, they have nine playoff berths with just one losing season.

But Seattle must now try and take the next step with QB Geno Smith. With Smith under center, the team has gone 9-8 in consecutive seasons, but scored 37 fewer points in 2023. It wasn’t all his fault – the defense ranked 31st vs. the run and 30th in total yards allowed.

Bookies.com veteran oddsmaker Adam Thompson has used his resources of NFL contacts developed over 20 years covering the league and the NFL Draft to create his hypothetical NFL futures odds on who gets selected 16th by the Seattle Seahawks in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Best 2024 NFL Draft Seahawks Prospects

After 14 seasons with Pete Carroll as head coach, the Seahawks now place former Ravens defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald in charge. He takes over a team that went 9-8, though statistically resembled a team with far fewer wins. They ranked 31st vs. the run and 28th in rushing the ball, Smith’s QBR rating dropped from 7th to 16th, and they were 31st in penalty yards.

Free agency was used to shore up some weaknesses, adding DL Leonard Williams in a trade with the Giants, and adding C Nick Harris. Building up the interior lines on both sides of the ball remains a priority, with the linebacker also in major need of upgrades vs. the run.

As the top interior lineman in the draft, Troy Fautanu checks the boxes as a bruiser who played tackle at nearby Washington but is widely expected to move to guard in the pros. If Fautanu is off the board, the Seahawks could look to Jackson Powers-Johnson of Oregon, the only other guard considered a first-round potential guy.

It’s just as likely, however, that they use No. 16 to solve a defensive issue. Byron Murphy II of Texas is ranked by NFL.com as the top interior D-lineman in the draft. His size (just under 300 pounds) is a concern for some at the next level, but his production (Big 12 Lineman of the Year) and motor have some teams excited about his potential.

Edge rusher isn’t out of the running. It’s likely Dallas Turner of Alabama and Jared Verse of Florida State are off the board, but Laiatu Latu of UCLA and Chop Robinson of Penn State are, in some circles, just as highly regarded, and more likely to be around at No. 16. Latu won the Lombardi Award as the nation’s top lineman and could be a stealthy pick at this point in the draft.

There’s also the chance all those players are gone by No. 16. Such is life with a mid-round selection.
