Manchester City have a decent chance of making the 2016 Champions League final after a goalless draw against Real Madrid at the Etihad.

While Manuel Pellegrini would have liked City to have their noses in front after the semi-final first leg, the lack of away goal for Los Merengues means that the Spanish side have to tread carefully when it comes to Wednesday’s match.

However, we must note that Cristiano Ronaldo didn’t play in last week’s encounter, with the former Manchester United star back for his team in the second leg match and he was practically unplayable against Wolfsburg in the last round.

On that occasion, Real trailed Wolfsburg 2-0 after the first leg match and looked borderline whether they were going to exit the competition, although Ronaldo produced a hat-trick to get the team over the line.

In addition, this round has the added bonus of a fit and firing Gareth Bale who can add more torment to a City defence who conceded four goals at St Mary’s on Sunday.

While Vincent Kompany was missing on that occasion, this was a strong enough City defence to keep things a lot tighter against Southampton and Zinedine Zidane will have watched the game with interest.

If Sadio Mane is capable of notching a hat-trick against City, then Ronaldo and Bale will fancy their chances, while Pepe had an outstanding match in Manchester and remains a brilliant central defender to cope with Sergio Aguero.

Ultimately, it would be an amazing achievement if the Citizens are able to shut out a Real Madrid side who have scored twenty-three goals in their previous six home matches.
