Key Trials From the Last 10 Years

The winner of Leopardstown's Grade 1 Tattersalls Ireland Novice Hurdle in February tends to run in the Supreme Novices' Hurdle, but the three most recent winners that have lined up in this race have won (Samcro, Sir Gerhard and Ballyburn). Leopardstown seconds won in 2015 and finished second in 2020 and 2022.

Notably, the winner of this race has gone on to win a Cheltenham Festival novices' hurdle next time out six times in the last 10 years. Talk The Talk won this year but, like last year's winner Kopek Des Bordes, is more likely to run in the Supreme Novices' Hurdle.

The winner of the Grade 1 Slaney Novice Hurdle at Naas in January has won two of the last four Turners Novices' Hurdles - Envoi Allen and Bob Olinger. The winner placed in 2025, 2023, 2018, 2013 and 2012. The Yellow Clay won in 2025 and finished second in the Turners Novices' Hurdle, whilst 2026's edition was claimed by I'll Sort That.

The New Lion emerged victorious in last year's Turners Novices' Hurdle, fitting every trend perfectly with three wins from three previous career hurdle races and had won a Grade 1 affair 74 days before the Cheltenham.

Second and third last year, The Yellow Clay and Final Demand respectively, also fit almost every trend, so it's no surprise that these three market favourites finished well clear of fourth.

Who Fits The Trends Best In 2026?

The good thing about the Turners Novices' Hurdle is that the trends have shown remarkable consistency over the last few years, with the winner hitting all or almost all of the ones noted further up.

Paul Nicholls doesn't have the best form in this race but will be hoping to change things with No Drama This End, who finished ninth of 17 in the Weatherbys Champion Bumper at Cheltenham last year. He's a perfect three-for-three over hurdles since then, though, including victory in the Grade 1 Challow Novices' Hurdle in December.

Willie Mullins saw his recent domination of this race ended last year but may look to Mighty Park to return to the top. Whilst the five-year-old lacks the experience of many others in this race, he won very impressively on hurdling debut at Fairyhouse in January and fits enough of the trends to be a strong consideration.
