Constitution Hill Specials, Betting Odds For Kempton & Flat Season

Constitution Hill is a huge favourite to take a second flat race victory out of two at Kempton Wednesday night with most betting sites. Aside from the cracking free bets operators will have for the occasion, some also have Constitution Hill specials for the Kempton showdown as he readies for a campaign aiming to deliver Group success on the flat after leaving hurdling behind.

The former star hurdler won 10 races in a row between December 2021 and January 2025 including two Cheltenham Festival triumphs. However, three falls and a fifth of sixth from his last four runs over obstacles had Constitution Hill backers reeling. On the safer surface on the flat, he put on a show for punters watching along on the best betting apps at Southwell on debut. So much so, that he is now going to be solely focusing on the flat.

He is a big odds-on favourite for the 7:30pm tonight at Kempton, and after his performance last time it's easy to see why. It’s maybe not the double that people go to first when thinking of big horse racing doubles in the same season. But considering Constitution Hill is campaigning on the flat for the first time, it’s fair to wonder whether he can with both on Wednesday and in a Group contest this spring or summer.

Nicky Henderson is used to training horses over obstacles, but his charge is a special exception, and he's sure to thrill plenty this season in the calmer waters of flat ground. William Hill is offering 1/1 from 8/11 that Constitution Hill will win a Group 1, 2 or 3 race on the flat this season. Paddy Power is offering a couple of enticing doubles: Constitution Hill to win at Kempton and the Group 3 John Porter Stakes at Newbury at 5/2 or Constitution Hill to win at Kempton and the Ebor Handicap at York in August at 16/1.

It’s probably safe to assume there has never been as much fuss surrounding a couple of random all-weather races of weekday evenings such as those at Southwell for Constitution Hill's debut and Kempton tonight. However, there haven’t been many former Champion Hurdle winners who are now turning their attentions to the flat.

That’s exactly what we’ll get this week as the great Constitution Hill lines up for a 1m4f race. Nicky Henderson’s nine-year-old has nearly £900,000 worth of prize money in his career and is now running in a Class 3. As such, there is plenty of interest at horse racing betting sites in what would be a relatively anonymous race without such star power.
