Kalvin Phillips was a superstar at Leeds United, but it’s fair to say that his Manchester City career hasn’t been plain sailing. Since the England midfielder arrived at the Etihad Stadium for £42m in July 2022, he has made just 31 appearances for the north-west giants in all competitions. There had been speculation Phillips was going to leave in the summer with a move never coming to fruition.

It appears Phillips has now finally resolved to leave the club this January, with his place in the England squad for Euro 2024 potentially at risk if he were to stay at City warming the bench. The best football betting sites have priced up the market for those interested in signing Phillips this January.

Could Newcastle Tempt Phillips Away from City?

In the summer, it seemed as if Liverpool were the front-runners for Phillips' signature, but with the signings Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai and Wataru Endo, the Reds appear set in midfield. A team crying out for a midfielder and greater depth is Newcastle. Eddie Howe's men have struggled at times this season and will look to bolster their squad for a push towards European qualification this season.

The best betting apps suggest the Magpies are among the favourites to sign Phillips. Though it is reported they will only be able to sanction a loan move given financial fair play restrictions, and it remains to be seen if City will agree to this.

Juventus a Possible Destination for Phillips

If City can sanction a move abroad and avoid selling Phillips to a rival, they may be more amenable to a loan deal. Juventus are a team that have been mentioned by many as a potential favourite to sign Phillips. Currently, UK betting sites believe Juventus are the most likely to sign Phillips alongside Newcastle.

He would add steel to the Juventus midfield at a time when they are aiming to challenge Inter Milan for the lead in Serie A. He would not be the first player from the UK to sign for the Turin club in recent times, with Aaron Ramsey signing on a free transfer from Arsenal in 2019. The Juventus faithful would be hoping this signing will turn out better than that one.

Could Phillips Be Part of PSG Project?

In recent years, Paris Saint-Germain have been linked to seemingly every possible player in the world - and at times it has felt as if they have signed every one of them too. However, a change in approach this season has seen the club be more judicious in their approach to signings as a way of garnering long-term success in Europe. Any youth movement needs its fair share of experienced help too, which is where the 28-year-old Phillips may be of service.

New betting sites see PSG as a viable option for Phillips this summer. Money certainly wouldn't be a problem if they are interested in the England midfielder. Only time will tell if a move to France materialises.
