Tip 1 - 1:50 Newbury - Thewoodcorner
There are a couple in this that we know virtually nothing about, and it is one of those we plump for because that four-year-old allowance looks awfully appealing. Thewoodcorner got off the mark over hurdles in January. The form of which looks decent with the second and fourth home winning next time out. Wasn’t really in the contest despite finishing second three weeks ago, but you get the impression Nicky Henderson has placed him here perfectly on handicap debut.

Tip 2 - 2:15 Bangor - Val Dancer
Favourite at the time of writing, Bo Cruz, looks to be too much of a gamble having gone up 17 pounds for last two wins. Val Dancer looks quite a bit overpriced even if his form since winning the Welsh Grand National hasn’t been great. However, the only two placed finishes since then have been in Graded company. Back down to just two pounds higher than for the Welsh National win, placed back into a Class 3, he really should take some beating.

Tip 3 - 2:25 Newbury - Knappers Hill
It can be dangerous to make excuses for horses in defeat, but Knappers Hill has had a tough time of things since returning from two years off in November. Chucked in at the deep end against The Jukebox Man, he then tried three miles and didn’t stay before not handling heavy ground at all last time out. Back on a sounder surface here, those three efforts may have left him on a dangerous mark. If he retains any ability after his long spell on the sidelines, he should be able to show it here.

Tip 4 - 2:40 Kelso - Glen Road
Not every horse takes to Kelso, but that can’t be said of Glen Road, who won on his only visit to the track. That win came at around this trip over hurdles in December. He seems to be getting the hang of things over fences, with a solid second-place effort at Sandown last time out showing his wellbeing. Off a four-pound higher mark than for that hurdle win here, he should have conditions to suit.

What is the Staking Plan and How Does a 1pt Win System Work?
We advise each bet as a win single or sometimes as an each way single. You can of course choose to combine the selections in a multiple bet, a Lucky 15 or a Yankee etc and that is a very popular way to follow the horses selected in this column daily.
A 1pt win per horse is advised in general and that means whatever your normal stake is for a bet is used as a point. For many this is £1 and for some this is £10 or more but it is totally relative to the individual and shouldn’t be more than you can afford to lose at any time.
For each way selections we advise a 0.5pt each way stake. So as with the win selections this would be a £1 total bet (50 pence each way) or a £10 total bet (£5 each way).
