Tip 1 - 1:35 Carlisle - Soft Risk
Coming back to racing after 789 days away, there’s probably not many horses with a more appropriate name than Soft Risk. The 10-year-old has been run very sparingly in his career with just seven runs to his name, but crucially has won five of those and come second in the other two. Tip 2 - 2:05 Carlisle - The Dog Thief
Willie Mullins looks to have a huge chance here with He’s On Fire. The five-year-old French recruit ran respectably in stronger races than this in his homeland, but he’s opposable at the prices. The Dog Thief is an interesting runner. He was a convincing winner of a point-to-point in December and could well have a bright future under rules. Everything aside from the favourite looks beatable and he could be value.

2:35 Carlisle - Ayiko
Ayiko shaped well on chase debut, finishing two lengths behind the winner at Haydock in December. The third home that day has since won, to frank the form somewhat. Step up in trip should be a positive, having won over today’s 3m1/2f when hurdling. Placed in a Listed hurdle in April, and the trainer likely wouldn’t have taken the long trip from County Antrim to Carlisle if there wasn’t some confidence in Ayiko here.

Tip 4 - 3:35 Carlisle - Soldier’s Leap
Soldier’s Leap picked up two wins and a third last year following a wind-op and looked to be one worth following. He was pitched into a race which was too hot for his liking last time out however after a hike in the weights. That wasn’t too bad a run considering the circumstances, and is much less likely to be taken off his feet today. Dropped 1lb for that effort he can get back in the winners enclosure today.

What is the Staking Plan and How Does a 1pt Win System Work?
We advise each bet as a win single or sometimes as an each way single. You can of course choose to combine the selections in a multiple bet, a Lucky 15 or a Yankee etc and that is a very popular way to follow the horses selected in this column daily.
A 1pt win per horse is advised in general and that means whatever your normal stake is for a bet is used as a point. For many this is £1 and for some this is £10 or more but it is totally relative to the individual and shouldn’t be more than you can afford to lose at any time.
For each way selections we advise a 0.5pt each way stake. So as with the win selections this would be a £1 total bet (50 pence each way) or a £10 total bet (£5 each way).
