Tip 1 - 2:40 Sedgefield - Belaya River
Belaya River has gone perhaps better than expected since moving to hurdles in winter, going 5412 including victory in a maiden hurdle at 7/1 and second in a juvenile at the end of February. His debut handicap mark of 107 is potentially a little high but he looks arguably the most in form of the seven runners and looks a nice price.

Tip 2 - 3:00 Southwell - Ukantango
Olly Murphy’s nine-year-old looks like a bit of a difficult proposition at times, but there is more than enough ability in there to win a contest like this. Twice placed in Graded company as a novice hurdler, once when rated 129. Has also placed in three chases when rated between 121-120. If producing his best, today’s mark of 109 should be well within reach. Chasing for first time in nearly two years but for a yard in great form with 14 of last 24 runners either winning or placing.

Tip 3 - 3:20 Wincanton - Golan Loop
2026 hasn’t seen Golan Loop deliver on the promise he showed in 2025. Having won on his final start over hurdles before going chasing, finishing second and first on his first two attempts over larger obstacles, the turn of the year has seen a quick downturn. There may be valid excuses though, as he was unsuited by soft ground at Wincanton in January and lost a shoe at Hereford last month. He retains plenty of potential and may well prove to be a bit better than his current mark.

Tip 4 - 3:50 Wincanton - Square Du Roule
To say the runners in this are inconsistent would be an understatement. And with that, we choose a horse with only five races under his belt and not seen since the 2025 Cheltenham Festival. Was pulled up in the Albert Bartlett that day but 12 days prior had bolted up by 16 lengths at Huntingdon over today’s distance. This is a chase, handicap and yard debut, so really anything could happen, but his previous pointing form suggests he’ll take to the bigger obstacles well enough. Goes well fresh, and will need to, but he seems worth a gamble.

What is the Staking Plan and How Does a 1pt Win System Work?
We advise each bet as a win single or sometimes as an each way single. You can of course choose to combine the selections in a multiple bet, a Lucky 15 or a Yankee etc and that is a very popular way to follow the horses selected in this column daily.
A 1pt win per horse is advised in general and that means whatever your normal stake is for a bet is used as a point. For many this is £1 and for some this is £10 or more but it is totally relative to the individual and shouldn’t be more than you can afford to lose at any time.
For each way selections we advise a 0.5pt each way stake. So as with the win selections this would be a £1 total bet (50 pence each way) or a £10 total bet (£5 each way).
