Tip 1 - 1:30 Ascot - Il Est Francais

This looks like it could be the day Il Est Francais gets his career in the UK back on track. His best performances have come on flat right handed tracks, so there was no real surprise he faded badly at the Cheltenham Festival. He almost spread the field in the King George but ran out of steam late on, similar tactics here over shorter could allow him to dominate from the front with much less of a chance he is caught.

Tip 2 - 1:50 Haydock - Mr Hope Street

Of the five runners in this, Mr Hope Street is the only one to have run more recently than the Grand National. The seven-year-old has been consistently strong over the last couple of seasons, going 1/121123 albeit at lower grades than Saturday. He was sixth in his first go this winter three weeks ago in Carlisle. With the rest of this small field all potentially sporting cobwebs, it’s worth taking a punt on a big price.

Tip 3 - 2:40 Ascot - Potters Charm

Everything went just about perfectly for Potters Charm last year before appearing to run out of steam up the hill in the Turners at the Cheltenham Festival. Prior to that had won two Graded races and finished second in another. Reappeared as a well-backed favourite three weeks ago but fell before he could really get going. Step back down in trip is likely to be ideal, and the yard is in good form with 13 of last 23 runners to post finishing in the top three with six winners in that.

What is the Staking Plan and How Does a 1pt Win System Work?

We advise each bet as a win single or sometimes as an each way single. You can of course choose to combine the selections in a multiple bet, a Lucky 15 or a Yankee etc and that is a very popular way to follow the horses selected in this column daily.

A 1pt win per horse is advised in general and that means whatever your normal stake is for a bet is used as a point. For many this is £1 and for some this is £10 or more but it is totally relative to the individual and shouldn’t be more than you can afford to lose at any time. 

For each way selections we advise a 0.5pt each way stake. So as with the win selections this would be a £1 total bet (50 pence each way) or a £10 total bet (£5 each way).
