Our Horse Racing Tips Staking Plan

Each selection we advised is a bet of £10 win single per horse. This is unless it is otherwise stated that is should be a £5 each way bet.

Do be aware that betting on horse racing is difficult to win consistently. Previous performance is no guarantee of future success, and you should only bet with what you can afford to lose.

Horse Racing Betting Tips

Tip 1 - 1:10 Cheltenham - Palamon

Palamon has been something of a workhorse over fences this year, running 13 times largely over Saturday’s distance of 2m4f. He comes into it off the back of a massive 32-length victory at Southwell 11 days ago and a second place at Plumpton on Monday at a grade higher. This is another Class 3, and he’s only up 1lb, so expect another good showing that’s worth backing at the price.

Tip 2 - 2:20 Cheltenham - Moon Rocket

Having burst onto the scene over hurdles in 2024 with form figures of 1122P, with the disappointment coming in a Grade 1, Moon Rocket has floundered since switched to larger obstacles. He’s either been a non-finisher or failed to beat a rival in his last four runs, which has seen his handicap rating drop by nine pounds. The big thing in his favour is the fact that he returns from six months off here and has won on seasonal debut each of the last two years. This could be the time to catch him right as he bids to exploit his reduced mark.

Tip 3 - 3:30 Cheltenham - Old Horse Town

The favourite at the time of writing looks hard to back from a rating of 147, considering the fact he is a 10-race maiden. Our preference is for a previous course-and-distance winner in One Horse Town, who triumphed at the November meeting last year in a Grade 2, with the second, fourth, fifth and sixth winning since. Went close again here in January last year before looking pretty tired come the Triumph Hurdle. Warmed up for this with a decent effort on the flat earlier this month and could be primed for a big run.

Tip 4 - 4:05 Cheltenham - Butch Cassidy

Derryhassen Paddy is favourite for this, but his jumping left a lot to be desired on chase debut in a small field, so he’s well worth taking on here. Butch Cassidy has looked a lot better over fences and can make his jumping experience count here. He won’t have been sent over on the boat for a day out and will be tough to peg back if he is allowed a soft lead.

What is the Staking Plan and How Does a 1pt Win System Work?

We advise each bet as a win single or sometimes as an each way single. You can of course choose to combine the selections in a multiple bet, a Lucky 15 or a Yankee etc and that is a very popular way to follow the horses selected in this column daily.

A 1pt win per horse is advised in general and that means whatever your normal stake is for a bet is used as a point. For many this is £1 and for some this is £10 or more but it is totally relative to the individual and shouldn’t be more than you can afford to lose at any time.

For each way selections we advise a 0.5pt each way stake. So as with the win selections this would be a £1 total bet (50 pence each way) or a £10 total bet (£5 each way).

Where Can I Watch the Daily Horse Racing Selections Run?

The best place is always on the racecourse but that’s not very practical so when it’s not on terrestrial TV with the likes of Sky Sports Racing and ITV (or ITV 4) then the best way to get instant access to live pictures is with a live streaming bookmaker – try these three below for the best of the bunch. We've also got a page specifically dedicated to Cheltenham Festival live streaming.
