Our Horse Racing Tips Staking Plan

Each selection we advised is a bet of £10 win single per horse. This is unless it is otherwise stated that is should be a £5 each way bet.

Do be aware that betting on horse racing is difficult to win consistently. Previous performance is no guarantee of future success, and you should only bet with what you can afford to lose.

Horse Racing Betting Tips

Tip 1 - 2:26 Thurles - Starflow

The penny has dropped for Starflow, who’s won his last two. Starting life as a handicapper with a basement mark, he’s shown himself to be a little bit better than that, and now finds himself rated 55. With just six career starts under his belt, there could be more improvement to come. In receipt of the weight for age allowance from some of today’s main rivals, he looks to have a big chance of landing the hat-trick.

Tip 2 - 2:31 Market Rasen - Who’s Glen

There is a prohibitive favourite in this three-runner field who has only ever had one point-to-point race. He might have won that handily, but we’d need more information than that to back his odds-on prospects here. Who’s Glen won a Bangor handicap last month in first-time cheekpieces and will be dangerous if running to the same level again. Was a decent third in a Class 2 Novices’ hurdle in March with the form of that being franked by a couple, so Class 4 Novice territory should be within grasp.

Tip 3 - 3:41 Market Rasen - Thickthorn Tom

Thickthorn Tom completed a hat trick earlier in the season, and his 2026 form now reads a sparkling 21211122. Two of those wins came over this distance, and the six-year-old has competed very creditably in Class 2 and Class 3 runs recently. Dropping back to Class 4 should help, and his mark remains at 117, so if he performs similarly to his last effort, he will take some stopping.

Tip 4 - 4:16 Market Rasen - Spot On Soph

A break has done Spot On Soph the world of good, as she is two from two since coming back from her rest over the summer. She won in some style last time out and looked to still have a lot in hand. We won’t find out if that is true today, though, as she gets in her off the same mark, meaning she is 5lb well in. With the same claimer as last time out on board and running at a track she has won at in the past, Spot On Soph should make a bold bid for the hattrick today.

What is the Staking Plan and How Does a 1pt Win System Work?

We advise each bet as a win single or sometimes as an each way single. You can of course choose to combine the selections in a multiple bet, a Lucky 15 or a Yankee etc and that is a very popular way to follow the horses selected in this column daily.

A 1pt win per horse is advised in general and that means whatever your normal stake is for a bet is used as a point. For many this is £1 and for some this is £10 or more but it is totally relative to the individual and shouldn’t be more than you can afford to lose at any time.

For each way selections we advise a 0.5pt each way stake. So as with the win selections this would be a £1 total bet (50 pence each way) or a £10 total bet (£5 each way).

Where Can I Watch the Daily Horse Racing Selections Run?

The best place is always on the racecourse but that’s not very practical so when it’s not on terrestrial TV with the likes of Sky Sports Racing and ITV (or ITV 4) then the best way to get instant access to live pictures is with a live streaming bookmaker – try these three below for the best of the bunch. We've also got a page specifically dedicated to Cheltenham Festival live streaming.
