After a dream redshirt freshman season where he led the Arizona State Sun Devils to the program’s first CFP appearance, it seems like Sam Leavitt’s time in Tempe might be limited.
According to media reports, the redshirt sophomore quarterback is deciding whether to transfer from ASU, a move that would catch interest in college football betting circles. The Athletic reports that Leavitt’s camp is seeking a deal north of $2 million a year.
So we at Bookies.com broke down Sam Leavitt transfer projections, our odds on where the 2024 Big 12 Offensive Freshman of the Year will suit up next, with ASU still in the driver’s seat.

Where Will Sam Leavitt Play Next?
Reports say Leavitt’s future is up in the air, but we’re going with ASU as our odds-on favorite to keep the third-year NCAA quarterback in 2026.
That’s why we have Kenny Dillingham’s team at -200 odds (or a 66.7% implied probability) to keep the former Michigan State QB in town next fall despite Sam Leavitt transfer projections.
ASU’s former Pac 12 conference mates from Eugene, Oregon, are next in line, at +1750. Oregon is still in the hunt for a CFP title and college football odds will reflect this.
A handful of Leavitt longshots, such as Miami (Florida edition) and Texas Tech at +2000 apiece, are next on our board. LSU, Tennessee and Indiana (all +3500) plus SEC rivals Auburn and Vanderbilt (+5000 each) round out our list.
Why The Hullabaloo for Leavitt?
The scarcity of quality quarterbacks on the NCAA transfer portal market means that quality options such as Leavitt can command top-dollar deals, especially in an age where teams can splash the cash directly to athletes.
While Leavitt’s on-field impact has been limited this fall because of a foot injury that ended his season, he has been solid when he’s been on the field for ASU. He had more passing yards per game (232.6, versus 221.9) and a lower interception percentage (1.3%, versus 1.7%) than his full-year numbers in 2024.
ASU has fallen out of the CFP discussion by losing three games this season – at Caesars Sportsbook, they have +3500 odds to win the Big 12, though their mathematical chances to even reach the title game are slim. Still, the Sun Devils are 5-2 when Leavitt has suited up, making him a valuable commodity on the transfer market this offseason.
While NCAA player salaries in the post-House era are murky (at best), ESPN.com has pinned the going rate for top college quarterbacks at $1 million to $2 million. That makes Leavitt’s reported salary demand well withing the range of what others at his position are reportedly earning.
For now, Leavitt’s tenure in Tempe will last at least two more weeks, as ASU plays Colorado in Boulder (on Saturday, 8 p.m. Eastern, ESPN2) before hosting in-state rival Arizona in the regular-season finale on Nov. 28.
