In the land of college football betting, the dog is king. That’s why Bookies.com is teaming up with a different animal shelter each week throughout the season to find dogs in need of a loving home.

College football handicapper Dan Kilbridge will start by examining the college football spreads at sportsbooks and picking his favorite underdog to cover the spread or win straight up that week. We then connect with a shelter near that team’s campus to share one lovable dog who could complete your family huddle.

It’s all about cashing bets and rescuing pets with Dog of the Week.

Dog of the Week is back on the prowl as we’ve got our eyes on our favorite Week 6 dogs – Virginia is a +2.5 underdog at Louisville on major betting apps, and Bunny is a one-year-old Australian Cattle Dog/Corgi mix hoping to find a new home field.

Before we dive in, good news to report: Hamburger, the first dog we highlighted, has been adopted from the the Champaign County Humane Society. Fletcher, Billie Jean and Pollo, the three other dogs we’ve featured, are still looking for a home. Let's get all these pups adopted.

The Pick: Virginia +2.5 over Louisville

Odds are current at publication. Betting sites may indicate odds changes closer to kickoff.

We’re really liking what we’re seeing from Virginia’s offense these days. The Cavs are seventh in the nation at 526.6 yards per game, with a balanced attack led by quarterback Brennan Armstrong. The junior already has 1,973 passing yards and 14 touchdowns on the season, and the Cavs can move it on the ground as well.

That doesn’t seem promising for a Louisville defense that ranks last in the ACC against the pass and second-to-last against the run. Offensively, Cardinals quarterback Malik Cunningham should have some success against a middle-of-the-road Virginia defense. But they need a lot of it to hang with the Cavs for four quarters.

The Over/Under of 69.5 tells you all you need to know about this matchup. It’s going to be a track meet, and Virginia’s output is going to be too much for the Cardinals’ defense.

We’re on Virginia as a +2.5 underdog. Bet on it with Caesars Sportsbook.

The Pup: Bunny

Bunny, a one-year-old Australian Cattle Dog/Corgi mix, is an energetic herder who’s always the life of the party. Checking in at roughly 37 pounds, Bunny moves as well as her name suggests. She’s fully vaccinated and microchipped and ready to take an official visit to find a permanent home.

You can find out more about Bunny at the Charlottesville Albermale SPCA Shelter website.

The No-kill shelter is open Monday-Friday by appointment only. For more information, please call (434) 973-5959.
