The 2025-26 NHL regular season is almost one fourth over, so it’s time to start looking at which players could be on the move. A veteran center could be on that list.

Nazem Kadri, in his 17th NHL season, is stuck on a Flames team that’s dead last in the NHL through 20 games, collecting just 13 points after a 5-12-3 start. That could pave the way for the club to move on from some established talent.

We have Calgary as the leader in the clubhouse to keep Kadri through the end of the current NHL league year (at least). But the former Toronto Maple Leafs and Colorado Avalanche forward also could wind up elsewhere in the Great White North.

That’s because our leading contenders to acquire the veteran are the Montreal Canadiens, who check in at +400 odds on our board, followed by the Vancouver Canucks at +600. What Kadri Adds For a New Team

Kadri’s three-plus year stint in Calgary has produced up-and-down results, with a minus-47 rating with the franchise. But he still is solid on offense, with 92 goals and 117 assists for Calgary.

His numbers in 2025-26 have yet to live up to the standard set during his Stanley Cup-winning year with the Avalanche in 2021-22, when he had a career-high 87 points in 71 games and a plus-13 rating, serving as a counterweight to more well-known stars Nathan MacKinnon and Mikko Rantanen.

This season, Kazri has four goals and seven assists in 20 games. But he has shown a knack for delivering on the sport’s grandest stage, potentially enticing a playoff contender to swing a deal before the NHL’s trade deadline in early March.

That’s exactly what Kadri would step into with either the Canadiens or the Avalanche. Montreal, a +8000 longshot to win the Stanley Cup in BetMGM Sportsbook preseason odds, is now +3300 after tallying 22 points through 18 games.

Colorado leads not only the Central Division but the entire NHL with 31 points in 19 games. At Caesars, the Avs are the Stanley Cup favorites at +500 odds, as of Nov. 17.

For now, Kadri is stuck waiting to see what Calgary’s next move will be, with the Flames wallowing in the NHL cellar about a quarter of the way into the season.
