The San Diego Padres had a headline-making 2020 MLB trade deadline, acquiring Indians starting pitcher Mike Clevinger and major bullpen help. The Blue Jays and Reds also made moves they expect will push them closer to a postseason berth.
With the shorter season and a one-year playoff expansion, now is the time for so-called mid-market teams that aren’t always in contention to go all-in for a shot at glory.
Odds shifted after Monday’s MLB trade deadline, not just among World Series futures but through league and division races on the MLB futures market as well.
Here is a breakdown of the latest odds and three value picks before odds drop.

San Diego Padres — Win World Series +1800
No team scores more runs per game than the Padres (5.7 per game). Now they have a Big Three cast of starters to do damage in the playoffs. Adding Clevinger adds a bona fide ace to San Diego. He joins strong-but-young starters Chris Paddack and Dinelson Lamet in a potential-laden rotation.
The bullpen is subpar, especially without star closer Kirby Yates. But the team added help at the trade deadline (highlighted by former closer Trevor Rosenthal). The Dodgers are still the heavy favorites, but San Diego is going for it this year. If the team gets hot, it can go all the way. Find the Padres for the best odds at Caesars.

Chicago White Sox – Win AL Central +170

The White Sox offense is scoring runs at will. Their 5.2 runs per game ranks second in the American League (behind the Astros) and they’re a top-five unit in average, runs and homers. Not a huge surprise, after a momentous off-season when they added the likes of Yasmani Grandal and Edwin Encarnacion and re-upped Jose Abreu.
Most important, however, they shored up a pitching rotation that had big holes. Lucas Giolito and off-season addition Dallas Keuchel lead the way for a rotation that ranks fourth in ERA and their 10th-ranked bullpen is solid. The Twins are fading and the Indians’ offense is too inconsistent to rely on. The division is there for the taking, and we’re getting plus odds for the time being. Back the White Sox to win the AL Central at Bet365.
Houston Astros – Win AL West +225

The Astros rank just 24th in home runs hit, but are a top-half team in most every other key hitting and pitching statistic. They are built for consistency and their 5.3 runs per game ranks fourth despite a relative inability to knock the ball over the fence.
The A’s hold a three-game lead on the Astros, but Houston just swept them in a two-game set. Oakland has the best bullpen in the game, but the starting rotation has been mediocre and the A's offense ranks 12th in scoring and 15th or worse in most offensive categories. Houston can catch Oakland and the odds are great to take that flyer. Find Houston for the best odds at Unibet.
