Donald Trump and Elon Musk had a breakup for the ages this week. Their feud went nuclear on both X and Truth Social, as the 47th President and the world’s richest man exchanged insults and not-so-veiled threats.
Reports of a reconciliation were quickly squashed Friday morning by Trump himself, speaking to both ABC and CNN.
The clash between these two titans has roiled the stock prices of companies linked to them. By the end of trading Thursday, Musk had lost $33.9 billion in market value for his various companies since his rift with Trump reached DEFCON 1. (Above illustration via Grok.)
That loss is staggering—enough, in fact, for Musk to buy the New York Yankees, New York Knicks, New York Jets, New York Giants, New York Liberty, and the Empire State Building. The combined worth of those teams is estimated at $31.8 billion, while the Empire State Building is valued at $1.7 billion.
Trump and Musk became political besties during the 2024 presidential campaign. Musk donated more than $250 million to support Trump and other Republicans. In return, Trump appointed Musk head of the newly formed Department of Government Efficiency.
Trump vs. Musk: What Happens Next?
After a whirlwind first 100 days of Trump’s second term, the relationship began to cool. Once Musk’s official White House stint ended, he publicly criticized Trump’s so-called “Big, Beautiful Bill.” Their alliance quickly crashed—at least online.
So what’s next? Traders on Kalshi, a legal prediction market regulated by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, are already placing bets. On Kalshi, "yes" and "no" outcome shares trade between 1¢ and 99¢. Each correct outcome pays out $1 per share. The platform is legal in all 50 states.

Trump vs. Musk: Tale of the Tape
While we won’t see these two in the octagon—despite their shared love of UFC—the drama is still headline-worthy. (Not to mention, the Secret Service would never allow it.)

Fun fact: Neither Trump nor Musk is eligible to be elected president in 2028. Musk, born in South Africa, is not a natural-born U.S. citizen and therefore barred under Article II, Section 1, Clause 5 of the Constitution. Trump, having been elected in both 2016 and 2024, is ineligible to be elected under the 22nd Amendment, which prohibits anyone from being elected president more than twice.
Trump's vitals were taken from the official White House physical released in 2025. Musk's were from multiple online reports.
