Luis Suarez is the new favourite to win the Copa America golden boot after a stellar start to the competition in Brazil.

Lionel Messi had been the pre-tournament favourite to score the most goals during the 2019 Copa America this summer.

But Suarez’s two strikes and an assist in Uruguay’s opening two games has seen the Barcelona striker move ahead of his domestic team-mate in the betting odds.

Bookies Bet365 now have Suarez as the 4/1 (+400) favourite to top score in the Copa America, coming in from a pre-tournament price of 15/2.

The shift in odds evidently shows soccer bettors are confident Suarez, 32, can continue his scoring record deep into the tournament.

Coutinho and Messi Betting

Suarez also leapfrogged another Barcelona teammate and Brazil forward Philippe Coutinho, who is now second favourite but drifting at 5/1 (+500) with Royal Panda.

Coutinho also boasts two goals so far, having netted a double in Brazil’s 3-0 opening-game victory over Bolivia in Sao Paulo.

But he drew a blank in their second game against Venezuela and arguably has greater competition for game time than Suarez, who is the talisman of this Uruguay side.

As for Messi, Argentina lost their opening clash of the Copa America 2-0 to Colombia. They were then held to a frustrating 1-1 draw with Paraguay, in which Messi rescued his country with a penalty.

There are doubts over whether Argentina will make it far enough in the competition for Messi to really challenge for the Golden Boot. He is now 5/1 (+500) with 10Bet, having started out as the pre-tournament favourite at 3/1 (+300).

Brazil Still Favorites To Win Copa America

Brazil appear to be having issues in their home tournament and drew their second group match with Venezuela 0-0. They have been booed by fans during both matches yet the Venezuela result has not yet affected Brazil’s title chances.

They remain the 6/5 (+120) favourites to win the Copa America, with Suarez’s Uruguay at 4/1 (+400) and Messi’s Argentina at 15/2 (+750).

Champions Chile, who beat Japan 4-0 in their opening match, are 10/1 (+1000) to defend the title they have won in each of the last two instalments of the Copa America.
