It’s an old-fashioned NFC East throw-down to end the regular season with everything from playoff seeding to spoilers on the line. The game features two of the top three rushers in the NFL in Ezekiel Elliott (1) and Saquon Barkley (3) behind two decent QBs. The biggest question here is how long the Cowboys starters will play, as they already have the division wrapped up.

The Giants kept things close last week against the Colts in a losing effort, 28-27 the final, but did see Eli Manning keep pace with a resurgent Andrew Luck. Manning helped keep the Giants in that game as Barkley was limited to just 43 yards and a score.

Injuries remain a huge concern for this team on both sides of the ball, as Odell Beckham Jr. might miss his fourth straight game. All of that said, this could be a second half of the Giants starters vs. the Cowboys backups, something NFL betting fans should be mindful of.

The Cowboys are the latest team to land atop the constant rotation of division winners. They have a playoff spot locked up and are debating in house how much to play their starters. They’ve won four of five, but that deflating 23-0 loss to Indy still stands out. This might be a chance to continue getting Dak Prescott and the offense back on track following their 27-20 defeat of Tampa Bay last week.

Giants-Cowboys Best Bets

Giants (-6) over Cowboys

The injury factor plays an even bigger role for the Cowboys ahead of a game they truly don’t need to win. There’s already concern if Jason Garrett should start Prescott, Elliott and the rest of the 1’s on offense. All that adds up to the Giants giving nearly a touchdown in point-spread betting and a whopping -278 in moneyline betting.

The Giants are most likely without Beckham Jr. again but going against second stringers it shouldn’t be a problem. Even if Dallas comes out with their top guys on both sides of the ball, don’t expect that to last into the second half.

This game will come down to Barkley moving the football on the ground and in the air. He’s 114 yards away from becoming the third rookie in NFL history to hit 2,000 yards from scrimmage. Barkley will go against a softer Dallas front for sure in the second half, so if NY can establish any sense of a lead this should be an easy close out. Bet the Giants and give the points.

Under 41.5

This is a low over/under betting number, but we are dealing with two rush-first teams and one of them might not even be at full strength. The biggest injury for the Giants isn’t on offense with OBJ, more so their defensive leader in Alec Ogletree dealing with a concussion.

If he misses the game the Giants defense normally would have their hands full with the Dallas rushing attack, and not have a key guy against Prescott.

There is also a strong chance that both Manning and Barkley don’t see the end of this game as well. The Giants may go to their backups, as hinted at by HC Pat Shurmur this week, late in the game. Manning might take a back seat early to the possible future at that position in Kyle Lauletta. That’s another recipe for the under.

Dallas Under 17.5 Total Points

In order for Dallas to truly hit this over – knowing we won’t see their starters in the second half – would be to explode in the first quarter. There isn’t much about this team’s recent history that would indicate the Cowboys would be able to light up the Giants for three scores in the first frame.

Dallas already announced Pro Bowl OL Zach Martin will sit with a knee injury, making it more difficult for holes to open on the ground. One big hit on the Cowboys QB could be enough to send him to the bench for the rest of the game.

Still not sure? The Cowboys are a whopping 2-5 on the road this year. To say they’ve struggled in the first quarter on the road would be an understatement. They’ve scored just 12 total first-quarter points over the course of those seven games away from Dallas. Bet on Dallas to go under 17.5 points.
