NFL DFS Week 1: Top Stacks & Team You Should Play Sunday

Week 1 of the NFL betting season is here, and that means we can finally play DFS once again. Early-season daily fantasy slates can be difficult as players are still learning which teams can be exploited and how to handle new coaching staffs. So, a general rule that can be helpful is to stick to players, but more specifically, coaching staffs, that have continuity.

However, there are a few young players and quarterbacks that have juicy Week 1 matchups at sportsbooks and betting sites that offer DFS value that we can't ignore. With that in mind, here are some of our favorite stacks and NFL picks for Week 1, and our full lineup to use in tournaments and guaranteed prize pools. All prices are from DraftKings.

Best NFL DFS Stacks Week 1

Eagles QB Jalen Hurts ($6,400) and TE Dallas Goedert ($4,800)

A nice mid-level stack for Week 1 features Jalen Hurts and Dallas Goedert. In the three games that Hurts started and finished in 2020, he averaged 28.56 DFS points per game. You just aren't going to find a quarterback with that type of upside for less than $6,500. Add on the fact that he will be facing the Falcons, who allowed the fifth-most fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks this season, and he is an easy play in Week 1.

Pairing Hurts with Goedert makes the most sense considering the Falcons allowed the fifth-most points to opposing tight ends last year and lost both of their starting safeties in free agency. Goedert will likely share some of the receiving workload with Zach Ertz, but it’s worth noting that he averaged nearly six targets per game when Hurts started last season. As a result, this is our preferred stack of Week 1.

Seahawks QB Russell Wilson ($7,000) and WR D.K. Metcalf ($7,500)

If you want a stable QB-WR stack in Week 1, consider playing Russell Wilson and D.K. Metcalf. They will take on the Colts, who allowed the fourth-most fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks last season. While Wilson and Metcalf weren't quite as dynamic on the road last season as they were at home, the Colts don't have anyone who can keep up with Metcalf down the field.

It's also important to remember that Wilson pushed the coaching staff to play faster this year, similar to what we saw in the first two months of the 2020 season. During that time, Metcalf averaged nearly 100 yards and 1 TD per game in the first eight weeks. Look for that type of production in Week 1, as both players should finish close to top five at their respective positions. As a result, this is one of the safest Week 1 QB-WR stacks.

Jets QB Zach Wilson ($5,000) and WR Corey Davis ($4,900)

A game that will undoubtedly feature a ton of points will be the Jets vs. Panthers. Both teams struggle on defense, as the cornerback situation for both sides is alarming. While it's usually not a great idea to play a rookie QB in their first start, the matchup couldn't be any better for Zach Wilson. But more importantly, his No. 1 receiver in Corey Davis is screaming value.

Davis should see a ton of targets in this game as the Jets peppered him with passes in the preseason. As you will see in our DFS picks for this week, Davis is a must-play at his price tag, considering he could easily eclipse 10 targets in this game.

We’ve already discussed our reasoning behind the Hurts-Goedert stack, so let’s move onto running backs. Alvin Kamara is our No. 1 running back for Week 1, as he averaged 24.5 points on DraftKings last season. When he took on the Packers last season, he scored an incredible 47.7 points as he totaled 197 yards and scored two touchdowns. With no Michael Thomas in Week 1, Kamara should see a massive workload once again.

D.J. Moore is also a must-play in Week 1 on your sports betting app as the Jets might have the worst secondary in the NFL. Moore is a dynamic player after the catch who averaged 9.8 targets per game in the final five weeks for the Panthers. Look for him to see close to double-digit targets against the Jets, who could have one of the worst pass defenses in the NFL.

Another must-play this week is Michael Pittman Jr., as he is a steal at $4,100. With T.Y. Hilton going on the injured reserve list, Pittman is the clear-cut WR1 in Indianapolis. He should see a big workload in this game against the Seahawks, who allowed the seventh-most points to opposing wide receivers last season. Seattle is weak at cornerback and this matchup sets up well for Pittman to have a big game.
