Taylor Swift has done the impossible. She now owns as much of the Super Bowl spotlight as any one player, the commercials, or the halftime act.

Swift’s presence was an undeniable reason why Super Bowl 58 was the most-watched television program in history. The Chiefs’ 25-22 OT win over the 49ers reached an estimated 123.7 million viewers on CBS. Super Bowl 59 kicks off at 6:30 p.m. Sunday on FOX. It takes place at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans.

She has done what even legalized betting could not – deliver the NFL an entirely new audience demographic.

The intensity of the Swift Effect, and the power of all that is “Swelce” does not carry the same octane as it did last season. Her romance with Travis Kelce became public knowledge in the summer of 2023. During the 2023-24 NFL season, every time she showed up to watch her beau play, it was an event. The CBS, FOX, NBC, and ESPN cameras could not contain themselves.

“I'm very happy for Taylor Swift because Taylor Swift has brought some of the Swifties to the NFL and I'm grateful to her for that,” said >DraftKings Director of Race and Sports Johnny Avello

And even though the haters gonna hate, hate, hate, sportsbooks have gone all in friendship bracelets and hope to find their own karma.

“When one of the greatest recording artists of all time starts attending NFL games, there is always a spike in interest. Last year, numerous prop wagers centered around themes related to Taylor Swift, and the betting public couldn't get enough of it. It will be fascinating to see the handle year over year on similarly themed prop wagers for the Super Bowl. Having a megastar cheer on one of the all-time greatest players at his position will always generate astronomical interest," said Craig Mucklow, Vice President of Trading at Caesars Sportsbook. "The trading team at Caesars have become overnight Swifites to use any pun going on a prop, which has shown traders can be marketing gurus also.”

This season, with “Swelce” entering Year 2, her presence on camera has been tempered. We don’t know if that “Code Red” was given by Park Avenue, or Swift herself.

Ahead of Super Bowl 58, there was a mystery (for some) that Swift might not be able to attend the game in Las Vegas because she was on tour in Asia – and had a concert in Tokyo on Super Bowl Saturday.

But her attendance was never in question in large fact due to Time Zones and her private plane that could cover 5,000 miles on a full tank of jet fuel.

‘Will Taylor And Travis Get Engaged?’

Super Bowl 59 Betting Guide For Swifties: Taylor's Version 1

This year, the buzzy storyline is this: “Will Taylor and Travis get engaged after the Big Game?”

The following point cannot be stressed enough this week – especially given the flood of media types who play pretend when it comes to sports betting during Super Bowl week.

You CANNOT LEGALLY wager in the United States on ANY prop wagers concerning Swift’s behavior, her clothing, how many times she will be shown during the FOX telecast, or if she and Kelce will indeed get engaged after the game.

Some of those markets are available in LEGAL markets in Canada.

For example, at FanDuel     in Ontario, you can bet on “Will Travis Kelce propose to Taylor Swift on the field after the Super Bowl?” at +750 for “yes” and “-1500” at “no.”

Those numbers have moved since they opened at +800 and -2000 respectively.

Kalshi, which a legal trading market available in all 50 states, is offering several trades around The Big Game. And you can trade on whether Swift will be part of Kendrick Lamar’s half-time show. (She won’t.) But it has yet to open any Swift-themed markets.

Finding A Work-Around For Swift Wagers

DraftKings   this year is continuing a trend it began during the 2023-24 season by offering a series a player props built around Swift and her music.

The site has 33 Swift-themed prop wagers being offered on the Super Bowl.

The bets are simple player props – but are titled in a Swiftie manner.

Among the offerings:

  • +300 – “Shake It Off: PHI Eagles to Score First & KC Chiefs to Win”
  • +350 – “22: Any Quarter to Have 22+ Points Scored”
  • +450 – “Mine: Travis Kelce to Have 87+ Receiving Yards & Score 1+ TD”
  • +800 – “Friendship Bracelets: Kareem Hunt & Isiah Pacheco to Combine for 3+ TDs”
  • +1200 – “The Last Great American Dynasty: KC Chiefs to Win By 22+ Points”
  • +1600 – “Anti-Hero: Jalen Hurts to Throw 3+ Pass TDs & Score 1+ Rush TD”
  • +7000 – “You Belong With Me: Travis Kelce to Score the First & Second TD”

Swift’s Impact On Betting Odds Is A “Blank Space”

Oddsmakers in Las Vegas and Atlantic City do not consider either the presence of Swift, her relationship with Kelce, nor Park Avenue’s proclivity to have so many close calls fall Kansas City’s way, as having a major impact on betting odds.

Two major U.S. sportsbooks share those sentiments, but their representatives would not go on the record to say so.

What if Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift broke up before the Big Game and she was a no-show at the Big Game? Would that impact odds?

The answer is: “No.”

Westgate Superbook Director of Race and Sports John Murray puts it this way: “There would be no impact on the line if Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift broke up. And I don’t believe that the league is pushing for KC. I wouldn’t have that factored into the line.”

His view was shared by his counterpart at the cross-town Circa Sportsbook, Jeffrey Benson, who simply replied “No and no.”

Borgata AC Director of Race and Sports Thomas Gable shares the perspective of his counterparts in the desert. For him, the “Swelce” impact just doesn’t fit into the metrics. But the potential impact of officiating is something to be watched.

“I would not change the line if Kelce and Swift broke up, unless this somehow would lead to Kelce not playing in the game.  If he was still playing, there should be no effect on the line.  His overall value to the number is somewhere slightly less than one point,” Gable said. “I know the consensus opinion is that the NFL wants to see the Chiefs win, but I do not factor that into their power rating at all.  The ‘pure’ number shouldn’t really have that in it whatsoever, but certainly at times, it may make sense to shade the number slightly towards the Chiefs for wagering purposes.”
