The Bethpage Black adventure begins well before players tee off. There’s the crush to secure a tee time on the most sought-after municipal course in America, which for some entails sleeping in cars to snag one of the first-come, first-serve spots available first thing in the morning.

But once inside, the true beauty of this state park layout reveals itself in greens fees that run just $75 for in-state residents on weekends.

This on a course that has hosted two U.S. Opens, welcomes the PGA Championship this weekend, and will be the site for the Ryder Cup in 2024. Bethpage is hard as hell, no doubt, but given its reputation as a people’s course, deep down it’s all about value.

So, there’s no better course at which to delve into the best value bets for the PGA Championship — wagers that don’t require much in the way of layout, but still bring the potential for an excellent return. Leave Rory, Tiger, Koepka and D.J. to other fans of golf betting.

Value Bets To Win 2019 PGA Championship

Tommy Fleetwood, +3000 (30/1)

Ultimate PGA Championship Betting Guide, Odds & Value Bets 1
Tommy Fleetwood’s game is well-suited for the course.

The shaggy-haired Englishman is far from the game’s biggest hitter, but he plays the kind of low-risk game that could minimize mistakes on a course with lots of hazards and tricky elevation changes.

He finished second in his last PGA Tour start, hasn’t missed a cut in 26 tournaments, and was runner-up in last year’s U.S. Open on a similarly taxing course, Shinnecock Hills.

Matt Kuchar, +5000 (50/1)

Ultimate PGA Championship Betting Guide, Odds & Value Bets 2
Matt Kuchar has been on a roll in 2019.

Tiger Woods may have provided the year’s singular moment, but nobody’s having a better season on the PGA Tour than the Kooch. He’s won twice, he’s finished inside the top 10 in half his starts, and he leads the FedEx Cup standings.

At 40, he’s rebounded from an awful 2018 to enjoy one of the best years of his career.

Webb Simpson, +7000 (70/1)

Ultimate PGA Championship Betting Guide, Odds & Value Bets 3
Webb Simpson plays risk-averse golf, and tha’s a good thing.

While everyone else is chasing big hitters, look instead for the guys who play steady, risk-averse golf. In the midst of a quietly solid season highlighted by a fifth-place finish at Augusta, Simpson is another low-mistake player who was in the mix at Shinnecock a year ago.

The guy’s a past U.S. Open champ and a fixture on majors leaderboards, and nobody knows who he is.

Scott Piercy, +15000 (150/1)

Ultimate PGA Championship Betting Guide, Odds & Value Bets 4
Could Scott Piercy join a list of notable no-name winners?

Listen, the PGA Championship can get a little weird. Past winners have included Jimmy Walker, Keegan Bradley, Y.E. Yang, Shaun Micheel, Rich Beem and Mark Brooks.

If there’s any major where some no-name is going to come out of the blue and steal the show, it’s this one — and Piercy is a prime candidate after carding top-three finishes in two of his last three starts. He’s another short hitter who makes a lot of cuts, logs a lot of top-10s, and cashes a lot of checks.

Best PGA Championship Each-Way Bets 2019

Ultimate PGA Championship Betting Guide, Odds & Value Bets 5
Francisco Molinari has a great track record – and will be a recommendation on a few wagers here.

Francesco Molinari, +550 (11/2)

He may have missed the cut in his last event, but Molinari remains a hot player with a track record of contenting in majors on difficult courses, and he has the kind of judicious game that can keep him out of trouble at Bethpage. He’s been on a strong run since winning the Arnold Palmer, and has finished sixth, fifth and first in his past three majors.

Tony Finau, +700 (7/1)

You want a big hitter? We’ve got one. Finau is a hammer off the tee who posted top-10s last year in the U.S. Open and Open Championship, on a pair of brutal courses — Shinnecock Hills and Carnoustie. His performance at Augusta the past two years shows he can be deft on the greens as well.

Like a lot of big hitters, he’s inconsistent, but still very capable of a top-five finish this week.

Henrik Stenson, +1000 (10/1)

Another quietly effective player who’s posted good if not spectacular numbers this season, and often enjoys strong showing at majors on tough layouts. The Swede owns six major finishes of 13th or better dating back to his 2016 Open Championship victory at Royal Troon.

Ian Poulter, +1400 (14/1)

The Englishman is on a nice run of top-12 finishes dating back to his strong showing at the Masters, and has a number of other good results to his credit this year. He’s also a grinder with the mental toughness to withstand the rigors of the most difficult course any of these pros are likely to face this year.

Top 2019 PGA Championship Prop Bets

New York has not been kind to Sergio Garcia.

Sergio Garcia +275 (11/4) to Miss the Cut

Majors are better with Sergio in them, and his creative shotmaking would be fun to watch on such a tough golf course. But Garcia has been a mess in majors since his Masters victory, missing the cut in an unthinkable six straight. Plus, he’s heading back to the place where New Yorkers unnerved him by making fun of his waggling and re-gripping in 2002.

Molinari +500 (5/1) to Win First-Round Six-Shooter

He’s in a stacked group that includes Tiger Woods and reigning PGA champ Brooks Koepka, in addition to very capable players in Rickie Fowler, Hideki Matsuyama and Xander Schauffele.

But Woods is a notoriously slow starter, Koepka is going to need to be on-target with his distance, and no one else in the six-shooter has won a major. Of the big three, Molinari has the game that might fit Bethpage the best.

Molinari +2800 (28/1) Low Round of the Tournament

Have we mentioned how much we like this guy? His last three majors have included a 66 at Augusta, two 67s at Bellerive, and at 65 at Carnoustie.

Given that the winning score at Bethpage will likely be around par, nobody should go ridiculously low. Looking at those odds, it would be tough to resist laying a little action on Frankie, and watching him work his magic.
