The Octagon heads back to the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada this Saturday for UFC Vegas 91: Nicolau vs. Perez. Coming off the incredible UFC 300 mega-card, this event certainly isn’t as stacked in comparison, but it should still be a fun night of fights. In this week’s edition of the Bookies.com Best Bets, we will go over our best bets for the main event and two other fights.

Check out Adam Martin's breakdowns of the three title fights on the card in the latest edition of the Bookies.com Best Bets.

UFC Vegas 91 Best Bet Odds: Nicolau vs. Perez

Favorite Underdog
Matheus Nicolau | -185 Alex Perez | +154

Odds are projected and do not reflect any odds that may be available at legal betting sites or betting apps. Odds don't always add up to 100% because they're based off a hypothetical sportsbook setting the line.

UFC Vegas 91 Main Event Best Bet

UFC Vegas 91 Main Event Best Bet Odds: Matheus Nicolau (-185) vs. Alex Perez (+154)

The main event of UFC Vegas 91 is a five-round flyweight bout between top-10-ranked contenders Matheus Nicolau and Alex Perez. Nicolau is a -185 favorite, and I like him to win.

Nicolau is 31 and he is 7-2 in the UFC. The Brazilian has had two separate stints in the UFC, going 3-1 his first time around 4-1 this time around. He has shown to have a well-rounded game with wins by knockout, submission, and decision. He is a solid striker with good grappling skills and he has proven he can go three hard rounds, although this will be his first five-round UFC bout. In terms of losses, Nicolau has been knocked out twice, so his chin could be a problem. However, he is a very dangerous fighter, and he can finish anyone inside of the Octagon

Perez is 32 and he is 6-4 in the UFC. The American is a former UFC flyweight title challenger and he has won four fights by stoppage in the Octagon, including both knockout and submission wins. However, defensively he has issues with submissions, having been submitted three times in the UFC, plus another knockout loss. As well, Perez enters this fight on a three-fight losing skid, so he has no momentum coming into it. He is a solid wrestler who has a ton of experience, so you can never count Perez out completely, but he is certainly not without his flaws.

Nicolau is a finisher, especially on the ground, and Perez is someone who has been finished many times by submission in the past. In this fight, I like Nicolau to catch Perez in a submission early and get the finish. Go with Nicolau to win at -185 and take him to win by submission.

UFC Vegas 91 Main Event Best Bets

UFC Vegas 91 Main Event Best Bet Odds: Jhonata Diniz (-230) vs. Austen Lane (+190)

The heavyweights clash on the main card when Jhonata Diniz takes on Austen Lane. Diniz is a -230 betting favorite, and I like him to end this fight by knockout.

Diniz is 32 and this is his UFC debut. The Brazilian is a former GLORY kickboxer who comes from a striking background and so far in MMA, he has used his striking skills to great effect with all of his wins coming by way of knockout – all in the first round. In his Dana White’s Contender Series appearance, he knocked out Eduardo Neves to earn a UFC contract. While his overall MMA game is still untested, there is no doubt he is an awesome striker with huge power. The UFC is giving him a very winnable fight here for his debut and it’s a matchup he can shine in.

Lane is 36 and he is 0-1, 1 NC in the UFC. A former NFL player for the Jacksonville Jaguars, Lane has done well since making the transition to MMA, with all 12 of his wins coming by stoppage. He has shown huge power as well and is very dangerous, however, he is chinny with four knockout losses in his MMA career so far. All the damage he took as a pro football player seems to have affected his ability to take a punch, which limits his upside in the UFC.

Diniz is a seasoned striker with great technique and massive KO power, while Lane doesn’t exactly have a good chin. I like Diniz to catch Lane with a big shot early in the fight and knock him out for his first UFC win. Go with Diniz to win at -230, and take him to win by knockout.

UFC Vegas Main Event 91 Best Bet Odds: Jonathan Pearce (-180) vs. David Onama (+150)

Also on the main card is a featherweight bout between Jonathan Pearce and David Onama. Despite being a +150 underdog, I like Onama to pull off the upset in this fight.

Pearce is 31 and he is 5-2 in the UFC. The American was knocked out in his UFC debut in a big upset to veteran Joe Lauzon back in 2019 at lightweight but rattled off five straight wins after that after he dropped down to featherweight. His wrestling game is strong and he has awesome cardio as well, however, the losing streak ended in his last fight when he was submitted by Joanderson Brito. There is no doubt Pearce is a very dangerous grappler, however, his durability isn’t great and he has been finished in most of his losses. Going up against someone like Onama who tends to finish his opponents, it could turn out to be a big problem for him.

Onama is 29 and he is 3-2 in the UFC. The Uganda native is a very dangerous striker who is coming off an incredible knockout win over Gabriel Santos in his last fight. All three of his UFC wins have come by stoppage, showing off how much of a threat he is to finish the fight anywhere it goes. That being said, his takedown defense is not very good, making him susceptible to being outwrestled. But if he can keep his fights standing, he can finish them. Going up against Pearce, Obama will have to do his best to avoid the ground and get the KO.

Pearce is a great wrestler and Onama’s takedown defense has been shaky in the UFC, so I get why he is the underdog. That being said, Obama’s heart and KO power have carried him to several UFC wins already, and I like that to be the case here once again with an upset knockout win. Go with Onama to win this fight as a +150 underdog, and take him to win by TKO.
