*Odds correct as of 13 February, 2024

Port Vale have parted company with Andy Crosby after less than a year in the job with the team languishing in 20th place in League One, just two points above the relegation zone with two games in hand. Vale have just one win from their last eight and will hope this change can bring about better fortunes for them for the rest of the season.

Football betting sites have opened a market on who might be given the job, with a wide-open race at present. The initial favourite with betting apps was Gareth Ainsworth, who did so well with Wycombe in League One before finding things much tougher in charge of Queens Park Rangers in the Championship. He has been replaced at the top of the market by Mark Kennedy, who was most recently manager of Lincoln City. Other names under consideration include familiar names such as Michael Duff, John Eustace and Mark Bonner. Former Sheffield Wednesday and Huddersfield manager Darren Moore has shortened significantly into odds-on favourite for the role as Kennedy has drifted to odds-against.

Gareth Ainsworth Open to Management Return

Gareth Ainsworth spent 11 years in charge Wycombe Wanderers, where he had finished his professional playing career and resisted overtures from many clubs during that time taking them from League Two to the Championship during that time. However, he was tempted by another team he played for in QPR last year. He was appointed in February but lasted only until October and could be looking for a new project in League One this time. Betting sites think he could be of interest to Port Vale in the early goings of the search.

Lots of Names Under Consideration

It's clear that new betting sites aren't quite sure who will be the next manager considering the sheer number of names included in the betting at present. While there are some managers who have previously done well in League One and the Championship such as Michael Duff, John Eustace and Darren Moore. there are others who will be hoping to restore their reputations after tougher previous stops such as Wayne Rooney and Stephen Kenny.
