*Odds correct as of June 18, 2023

Swansea City have had a host of high-profile managers in recent seasons while they were in the Premier League and Championship. Brendan Rodgers, Graham Potter and Steve Cooper are just some of the men who have taken charge at the Liberty Stadium before moving on to bigger and better things.

Now that Russell Martin has left for Southampton, it now appears that the Swans are close to hiring Michael Duff, with talks ongoing with the Barnsley manager after he previously steered the Tykes to the League One play-off final last season.

The football betting sites have now suspended their betting market after the latest development, with Duff certainly having the sort of pedigree that could give Swansea a shot at making the play-offs this term.

Duff In Pole Position To Take Swans Job

Michael Duff is clearly the number one target for Swansea City and we might see him announced as the club's new manager this week. The 45-year-old has been approached by the Welsh club and is clearly open to leaving League One side Barnsley to manage in the Championship.

Duff has been impressive at both Barnsley and previously at Cheltenham, with the Englishman steering the latter from League Two to League One before cementing their status in that division. He did a good job at Oakwell last term when helping the Tykes to the League One play-off final and they were somewhat unlucky to be beaten by Sheffield Wednesday with a goal in the final seconds of extra-time.

The former Northern Ireland international has two years left on his contract at Barnsley, although Swansea may be prepared to pay compensation to make sure that they land someone who has the sort of credentials to be a success at the Liberty Stadium.

Eustace Could Be Hardy Appointment at Swansea

The rumours linking John Eustace to the Swansea City manager's job refuse to go away. Despite the 43-year-old being in charge at Birmingham City, it appears as though the Welsh club might be interested in hiring someone who has performed impressively under difficult circumstances at St Andrew's.

Eustace took charge of Birmingham in 2022 and signed a three-year contract, with the manager steering the Blues to their highest points tally since 2016. However, there are off-the-field issues that could see him jump ship. Swansea might well covet someone who has held assistant manager roles with the Republic of Ireland national team and also Queens Park Rangers.

The betting apps have now shortened Eustace for the Swansea manager's role although the Welsh club would have to potentially pay compensation to Birmingham should they poach their manager.

Chris Davies Among Favourites to Replace Martin

Some Swansea City fans will remember Chris Davies as a coaching assistant to Brendan Rodgers at the Liberty Stadium. Rodgers was in charge of the Swans between 2010 and 2012 and guided the Welsh outfit to the Premier League in that time, with Davies working as part of the backroom staff and it appears as though the latter is now ready to take the main role.

The latest betting odds suggest that Davies is close to being handed the task of managing Swansea, with the coach having worked under Rodgers at Leicester City until the latter was removed from his post earlier this year. Davies was previously a promising football player before injury cut short a potential career and he instead went down the coaching route.

Davies has spent virtually a decade working under Rodgers at Swansea, Celtic, Liverpool and Leicester, and it's clear that he fits the profile of the sort of manager that Swansea are looking for. The bookmakers are not ruling out Davies landing back at Swansea.

Schumacher Prominent in Swansea Manager Betting

Steven Schumacher is currently preparing his Plymouth Argyle side for next season's Championship campaign, with the Liverpool man steering the Pilgrims to League One promotion last term by winning the title. The 39-year-old is highly regarded after his exploits with the Devon club and it's possible that Swansea could make an approach for someone who had Argyle finishing ahead of Sheffield Wednesday, Ipswich and Barnsley last season.

Schumacher might be content to bide his time with Plymouth and establish them in the second flight following their promotion. The former Bradford City and Bury player worked under Ryan Lowe at Home Park before getting the job on a full-time basis in 2021. The fact that he has just ended Plymouth's 13-year hiatus and the second tier could count for something, although we have previously seen Lowe move to Preston.

Nathan Jones Prominent in Swans Betting

Swansea will want a manager who can challenge for promotion to the Premier League next season, and perhaps Nathan Jones ticks the right boxes. The former Luton Town manager was highly successful with the Hatters and guided them to the Championship play-offs a couple of seasons ago, before he left them in a good place this season when leaving for an ill-fated spell at Southampton.

Jones could be open to the prospect of a new beginning at the Liberty Stadium, with the manager having the obvious Welsh links that might endear him to the fanbase at the Liberty Stadium. Perhaps he will be able to prosper with better resources than he had at Luton, with the bookies respecting his chances of joining the Championship club.

Kevin Muscat Another Potential Contender

Kevin Muscat has been linked to a number of vacant managerial positions in the UK. The Australian is currently in charge of Yokohama F. Marinos in Japan and the 49-year-old might be open to the idea of heading to Wales and taking charge at Swansea City. Muscat enjoyed plenty of success while managing Melbourne Victory between 2013 and 2019 in the Australian A-League.

Muscat spent a lot of his playing career in England, turning out for Crystal Palace and Wolves. He then headed north of the border and played for Rangers before a stint with Millwall prior to returning Down Under to play for Melbourne and then going into football management.

He has won two A-League Championship titles as manager and one A-League Premiership title. He was also successful with Yokohama when winning the Japanese J-League in 2022 and the Japanese Super Cup in 2023, so it is no surprise to see betting sites linking him with the Swansea vacancy.

Cotterill, Maresca and Critchley Also Linked to Swans Post

Bookmakers regularly have Steve Cotterill in their next manager betting markets in the English Football League, and the current Shrewsbury Town boss has a wealth of experience in various roles. The 58-year-old has been in charge of the Shrews since 2020, having previously had roles with Birmingham City, Bristol City and Nottingham Forest.

Meanwhile, Neil Critchley is now on the market once again after a short spell with Queens Park Rangers ended last season. The former Blackpool boss achieved just one win in his 12 games in charge at Loftus Road, but he was previously successful with the Tangerines and perhaps he could be a viable replacement to Russell Martin at Swansea, with new betting sites thinking he could be a candidate.
