Let’s get one thing straight – if the Army-Navy game doesn’t elicit some type of emotional response, you’ve got serious problems. This is one of the best, longest-running traditions in college football and the service academies have the stage to themselves once again Saturday, with Navy taking on Army at Lincoln Financial Field.

Monetary interests are obviously secondary given the storied nature and off-field magnitude of this rivalry. Having said that, they’re gonna play the game regardless so we might as well turn to college football betting to keep things interesting from home. It’s the only game on the board with bowl season just a week away, and it’s always a nostalgic affair when these teams line up in the trenches and go after it.

Neither is bowl eligible so this is truly the last go-round for seniors, as these teams prepare to meet for the 123rd time Saturday in Philadelphia.

Navy vs. Army Moneyline Pick

Navy was in control of this rivalry for the better part of two decades, winning 14 straight matchups from 2001-2015. But Army has since flipped the script to win four of the last six games, and the Black Knights are just slight underdogs in this one at +115 on the moneyline according to the latest college football odds

Navy is the slight favorite at -135 to win outright and is coming off a big 17-14 win at UCF in their penultimate regular season game. The Midshipmen also took Notre Dame down to the wire in a 35-32 home loss against the Irish the week prior.

Army has the slightly better record on paper at 5-6, but the Black Knights wouldn’t be bowl eligible even with a win – the NCAA reportedly turned down Army’s request for potential bowl eligibility as two of their wins came against FCS opponents. That points to the big issue for us in this matchup – Navy has played a far tougher schedule all season and hung tough in most games. This team could easily be bowl eligible but came up short by three points against Air Force, six points against SMU, three points against the Irish, etc.

This is a far more favorable matchup for the Midshipmen, and we like Navy to hit on the moneyline on betting apps. They get a second straight win after last year’s 17-13 victory in New Jersey.

Navy vs. Army Point Spread Pick

This point spread has been tight most years and we see no exception in 2022, with Navy listed as a -2.5 favorite. We expect the Midshipmen to hit that number and cover as well.

Navy is 7-4 against the spread this year and has covered three straight entering this game. Army is a respectable 6-5 against the spread and has been on a tear at the sportsbooks with five straight covers – including as -20 favorites in a 44-7 blowout win over UMass late last month. We suspect that streak will come to an end Saturday.

Army didn’t prove much by dominating UConn and UMass in the trenches in their two most recent games. Those teams can get completely overwhelmed up front, while Navy is built to push back. Hard. The Midshipmen boast the fourth-best run defense in the nation, and they’ve held four straight opponents under 85 rushing yards.

Army has the slightly more potent offense in this matchup. But they haven’t been very good in the front seven on defense and that’s where Navy has thrived all year. We’re on the Midshipmen to cover on sports betting sites.

Navy vs. Army Over/Under Pick

Here we have one of the craziest current streaks in sports betting– the total in this game has gone Under 16 years in a row. Oddsmakers have progressively shrunk totals in recent years and it hasn’t made a difference – the total was 36 in each of the past two matchups and went comfortably under both times.

These teams combined for just 45 points over the past two matchups, and we’ve seen the total go even lower this year, with the number down to 32.5 late in the week.

Sure, we could break down all the matchups and outline the handicapping process to arrive at a number that’s potentially higher than 32. But betting the Under in Army-Navy is just one of those things you do every year on principle. We’ll see if that steadfast approach holds true for 17 years in a row Saturday. We’re on the Under, as always.
