The first week of the college football betting season didn’t deliver any crazy upsets or unexpected results in the Mid-American Conference. Everything played out pretty much as expected on paper. That’s no fun!

Luckily, the MAC never fails to produce some crazy nonconference games and we’ve got another full slate entering Week 2.

The MAC has four chances this week to extend its streak of 14 consecutive seasons with a win over a Big Ten school (not counting the 2020 season, which did not include nonconference play). Buffalo has the best chance to do it according to the college football odds, with the Bulls entering Nebraska as a +13.5 underdog. Eastern Michigan faces the tallest task as a 26-point underdog on betting apps at Wisconsin.

Toledo, the preseason favorite to win the MAC at +220 odds, also gets a marquee matchup against No. 8 Notre Dame coming off a 49-10 win over Norfolk State. The Rockets are a +16.5 underdog at sportsbooks and betting sites for the Saturday afternoon game in South Bend.

We’ll be locked in on the MAC all season long with weekly point-spread breakdowns and our best bets for the conference. Here’s hoping for a little more chaos this weekend.

Week 2 MAC Best Bets

Buffalo +13.5 over Nebraska

We’re officially putting the Huskers on upset alert this weekend. The glory days in Lincoln are long gone and Nebraska can’t overlook any opponent, especially this Buffalo squad.

Buffalo had the No. 2 rushing offense in the nation last year at 287.1 yards per game on the ground, and the Bulls picked up right where they left off with 312 rushing yards in last week’s 69-7 win over Wagner. That’s bad news for Scott Frost’s Huskers, who gave up nearly five yards per carry last week against Fordham.

We expect the Bulls to sustain drives and score on this defense, shortening the game in the process. Bulls +13.5 is the play in Lincoln. Take the bet with FanDuel .

Eastern Michigan-Wisconsin Over 52

First off, Eastern Michigan quarterback Ben Bryant is a Cincinnati transfer who verbally committed to Wisconsin in 2017. The Badgers later pulled his scholarship offer after Bryant tweeted that he was “humbled” to also receive an offer from Georgia. How’s that for motivation?

Now, we’re not saying the Eagles will light up the scoreboard against this defense. But we expect them to put a few drives together and the Badgers have some key missing pieces on defense.

As good as Wisconsin’s defense looked for most of the day against Penn State, the offense couldn’t get anything going. That’ll change this week against an Eagles defense that gave up nearly 500 yards per game a year ago. The Badgers will be looking for a fast start after last week and should have no problems finding the end zone early.

We think this one will be higher-scoring than expected. Over 52 is the play with BetMGM .

Toledo +17 over Notre Dame

Brian Kelly’s defense didn’t instill any confidence during a 41-38 overtime win at Florida State. The Irish also looked overwhelmed on the line of scrimmage, averaging just 1.9 yards on 35 rushing attempts.

Notre Dame also got lucky with the Seminoles throwing three interceptions and committing nine penalties. It was not an impressive debut, and Toledo is the type of team that should make them nervous again this week.

Toledo features an experienced, balanced offense and the Irish are operating on a short week having played that road game Sunday night. We expect it to be a sweat in South Bend and like Toledo +17 with FOX Bet.
