Oregon vs. Ohio State is the type of college football betting matchup we typically expect to see in the College Football Playoff or on New Year’s Day in Pasadena. But you won’t catch a glimpse of serenity amidst the San Gabriel Mountains backdrop when the Ducks enter a decidedly un-chill atmosphere for this juicy Week 2 matchup in Columbus.

The Buckeyes and Ducks have some recent history, with Ohio State rolling to a 42-20 upset win in the 2014 National Championship game. Ohio State also got the best of Oregon in the 2009 Rose Bowl with a 26-17 victory.

This one should be a dandy at the Horseshoe with both teams ranked in the top 15 and looking to move to 2-0. Let's make our college football picks for the game.

Odds are current as of publication. Betting sites may indicate odds changes closer to kickoff.

Ohio State vs. Oregon Key Matchups

Anthony Brown vs. Ohio State Secondary: If there’s one place Ohio State is gettable, this is the matchup. Ohio State ranked dead last in conference a year ago, giving up 304.5 passing yards per game. Now the Buckeyes are thin at cornerback with several injuries and Ducks quarterback Anthony Brown needs to take advantage and test the Buckeyes DBs early and often.

Miyan Williams vs. Oregon Front Seven: Ohio State led the Big Ten in rushing last season and seems to have another talented workhorse in Miyan Williams. The freshman tailback ran for 125 yards on just nine attempts against Minnesota, and the Ducks can’t let Ohio State dictate the tempo with lengthy drives. The Buckeyes have a dangerous, balanced offensive attack regardless, but the Ducks front seven needs to step up and contain the rush within reason.

5 Key Stats For Ohio State vs. Oregon

9-0: That’s Ohio State’s all-time record against Oregon as the Ducks are still looking for their first win against the Buckeyes. This will be the first regular season matchup between the two schools since 1987.

35: As in 35 second-half points for Ohio State in last week’s 45-31 win over Minnesota, a reminder that these Buckeyes can turn it on at any time.

8: The Ducks had eight penalties for 87 yards in the opener against Fresno State, mistakes they can’t afford in Columbus.

4.5: That’s how many points the spread has moved since it first opened at Ohio State -10.

58%: As in 58% of point spread tickets on the Buckeyes, a relatively even breakdown ahead of kickoff.

Ohio State vs. Oregon Weather Forecast

It looks like a perfect night for football at Ohio Stadium, with forecasts projecting temps in the high 60s and a slight breeze with almost no chance of rain.

Ohio State vs. Oregon Moneyline

Ducks moneyline bettors at sportsbooks are hoping for a nice payday, with Oregon currently listed with college football odds of +475. Buckeyes backers on betting apps will have to lay a significant number at -675. No surprises here given that Ohio State is 62-5 straight up at home over the past 10 years. Oregon isn’t used to the underdog role, but the Ducks are a highly-respectable 6-8 straight up as a road dog in that same stretch.

Ohio State vs. Oregon Point Spread

The Ducks are getting a big hook with the line moving to +14.5 ahead of one of the most anticipated games of the season. Bettors have been largely split with 58% of the tickets on the Buckeyes and 42% for the Ducks.

Ohio State figures to need a better start after a sloppy first half against Minnesota. But that second half goes to show how the Buckeyes can pull away and overwhelm opponents at any instant, and Oregon can’t let its foot off the gas for a second if it finds any early success. We’ve seen it happen time and time again in recent years.

Oregon might not be able to go score-for-score with this team for the full four quarters, but we think they’ll do enough offensively to prevent a blowout and keep it within two touchdowns. We love that hook and like the Ducks to cover +14.5 on the road. Take the bet at FanDuel .

Ohio State vs. Oregon Total

The over/under is holding steady at 64 ahead of Saturday’s showdown. The majority of public bettors are on the Over (surprise, surprise), but there appears to be a big chunk of sharp action on the Under.

The Ducks defense is solid on paper and performed pretty well last season, but this Buckeyes offense is a different beast. Only elite defenses have contained them in recent years. Conversely, Ohio State’s defense struggled a bit in 2020 and was particularly vulnerable against the pass. This isn’t the Ducks offense of six years ago, but there’s still tons of talent and big-play potential. We’re going to side with the sheep on this one and like the Over at 64 with BetMGM .
