Two schools on historically-successful rides will collide in the ACC Championship on Saturday, when the Pittsburgh Panthers and Wake Forest Demon Deacons meet at Charlotte’s Bank of America Stadium (8 p.m. ET kickoff).

For Pitt, this season marks its first with double-digit wins since entering the ACC in 2013. For Wake Forest, this season marks only its second with double-digit wins in the program’s 114-year history. With a pair of electric offenses in tow, the current college football odds have the points total set beyond 70.

Neither school is playoff-bound, but the allure of a New Year’s Six bowl remains at stake. Check out our preview and college football picks for this matchup in the article below.

Odds subject to change.

5 Keys to Pitt vs Wake Forest

Pickett’s historic run: Next week, Pitt quarterback Kenny Pickett will probably be named as a finalist for the Heisman Trophy. He’s got one more chance to help his case, but Pickett has already made a statement as the only quarterback in the 68-year history of the ACC to throw for 40 touchdowns and over 4,000 yards in the first 12 games of a season.

Offensive onslaught: Pickett isn’t the only quarterback in this game that’s putting up massive numbers. Wake Forest’s Sam Hartman has 3,711 passing yards this year (ninth in NCAA Division I), and he’s thrown 34 touchdown passes. Wake Forest is third in the country with 515 points scored (42.9 per game), while Pitt is right behind at 514.

Not-so-neutral venue: Bank of America Stadium is about an hour drive south from Wake Forest’s campus in Winston-Salem, N.C. It’s about seven hours south of Pittsburgh. But even if this is treated like a pseudo home game for Wake Forest, it’s unclear if that’s an advantage: Demon Deacons are unbeaten at home (6-0), while the Panthers are unbeaten on the road (5-0).

You’re not in Boston anymore: Wake Forest put on a pass-defense clinic against Boston College last week, yielding just 19 yards on 13 attempts, with two interceptions to boot. We highly doubt it’ll be that easy against Pickett and Co., but at least the Demon Deacons have demonstrated what they’re capable of.

Notable common foes: Pitt hasn’t faced Wake Forest since 2018 (Pitt won 34-13), but a couple of matchups with common foes this season could be telling. The Demon Deacons lost to both UNC and Clemson, by a combined 24 points, while Pitt beat both of those teams by a combined 17 points.

Pitt vs. Wake Forest Weather Forecast

Saturday night in Charlotte will feature temperatures in the mid-to-low-50s, mild wind gusts and a 20% chance of precipitation.

Pitt vs Wake Forest Moneyline

Since November began, Pitt has certainly been the more successful team. They’re 4-0 straight up and 3-1 against the spread, with three of four wins coming by double digits. It’s been a comfy ride to the conference title game.

The same is not true for Wake Forest, once as high as ninth in the College Football Playoff rankings. They’re 2-2 since then, with two aforementioned losses against teams Pitt has beaten. Using recent results as our separator, we’ll take Pitt and its -144 college football betting odds on the moneyline.

Pitt vs Wake Forest Point Spread

The spread shifted by one point at sportsbooks early in the week, moving from 3.5 down to 2.5, which helps us feel even better about backing the Panthers.

Pitt is 5-1 against the spread in its past six games against winning teams. The Panthers are also 4-1 against the spread as single-digit favorites this season. Wake Forest is just 6-6 against the spread overall.

Pitt vs Wake Forest Totals

Look, if there are two teams capable of clearing 72.5 points together, we think it’s these two. A pair of top-five scoring offenses, led by two very capable quarterbacks, is a recipe for a ton of points.

Oh, and the over is 5-1 in Wake Forest’s past six against winning teams. Grab Over 72.5 (-110) at BetMGM.
