Miami Heat at San Antonio Spurs

Leg 1: Heat +6.5

The unbeaten Spurs face perhaps their toughest test of the season against the defense-minded Heat, who have won three straight.

Leg 1: The Spurs are a perfect 4-0 and have covered in three of those wins. The only blight is the strength of competition hasn’t been great. The Heat present a defensive challenge, and they’ve won three in a row, covered four in a row. Three of those were as underdogs. This is a litmus test for Miami; Erik Spoelstra can get his team to compete.

Leg 2: Victor Wembanyama has been held to under 29 points just once – it was the Spurs’ last game, a 24-pointer vs. the Raptors. Few defenses are as stingy on the inside as the Heat, and the Spurs star is a modest 4-of-11 on 3’s. Wemby scored 21 in his lone matchup vs. Miami, on 8-of-18 shooting.

Leg 3: Kel’el Ware gets to defend Wembanyama. That will keep him busy and, as other opponents have found, off the glass. Opposing Spurs centers are averaging just 6.7 rebounds per game per 48 minutes, which might be an all-time low. No other team is under 10. Ware has nabbed 8-9 boards in three straight, so I think we can expect slightly lower than his usual.
