LSU-Oklahoma Peach Bowl Props & Best Bets to Back CFP 2019

It’s understandable, the way Oklahoma continues to be ignored in the College Football Playoff. The Sooners were the last team invited to the party and match up against the hottest team in football. LSU quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner Joe Burrow is playing at an insanely high level. Consensus seems to be that OU is about to get rolled and doesn’t belong on the same field as the Tigers.

Some years it’s easy to point to conference bias or other factors, but this mismatch seems worthy of a two-touchdown spread. It’s just hard to bet against this LSU offense right now.

Pick 1: LSU -13.5

Oklahoma can hang with LSU for a while. That’s what Jalen Hurts and CeeDee Lamb give them offensively against a good-but-not-great Tigers defense. It’s just asking too much of that Sooners defense to contain Burrow and Co. for four quarters. Especially at the same venue in Atlanta where LSU just dominated a strong Georgia team in the SEC title game. LSU takes it by two touchdowns.

Pick 2: Under 76 points

Oklahoma has only been involved in four 70-point games this season, none since a Nov. 9 42-41 win over Iowa State. LSU has played its share of shootouts and would be comfortable in another here, but we think it’s a smidge too high for the first semifinal matchup. The Tigers will look to run some clock if they build a big second-half lead as expected. And that total is asking a lot of a Sooners offense.

Pick 3: First half over 38 points

Can Oklahoma quarterback Jalen Hurts, right, find top receiver CeeDee Lamb, left, often enough to keep the Peach Bowl against LSU close early?

While we don’t like the game over, we think it can surpass 38 in the first half. The two teams average 48.4 points combined in the first half this season and should get aggressive with the play calling early. They know it’s not going to be a field goal contest. We like a lot of early points before the action slows down a bit in the second half.

Pick 4: First-half tie score

Worth a look here considering the +1400 odds. LSU is a 7-point favorite on the first-half line and has been jumping all over teams early with two exceptions – Florida and Auburn. LSU was tied at the half in both contests before pulling away down the stretch. We don’t expect the Sooners to fold right away like Georgia did, so a +1400 long shot doesn’t seem totally out of the question.
