New York Liberty Next Head Coach Odds

LSU's Kim Mulkey may be a candidate in NY (USATODAY)

While the WNBA Playoffs are currently underway at U.S. betting sites, the league’s firing line is alive and well, with the defending champs axing their head coach. After the announcement that the New York Liberty are parting ways with head coach Sandy Brondello, Bookies.com developed exclusive hypothetical odds projecting who the next head coach will be.

Who Replaces Sandy Brondello in New York?

It’s hard to argue that Brondello hasn’t done her fair share on the sidelines since joining the Phoenix Mercury as the club’s head coach in 2014, winning two WNBA titles (one with the Mercury in 2014 and another with New York last season), while going 271-181 (.600) with the Mercury and Liberty, combined.

For her efforts in the Valley and Big Apple, Brondello earned the WNBA’s Coach of the Year honor in 2014 and was a coach in this year’s WNBA All-Star Game in Indianapolis, though her time in New York is officially over, which begs the question of who will replace her in 2026 and beyond.

For now, we’re going with a current WNBA head coach, in Stephanie White of the Indiana Fever, who is in her second stint leading the Hoosier State franchise after running the team from 2015 to 2016, before moving on to Vanderbilt, Connecticut and a second stint in Indiana this season.

White’s time in the WNBA has seen her post a 116-76 (.604) record with the Fever and Sun, with Indiana knocking out the Atlanta Dream in three games during the first round of the WNBA Playoffs before taking a 1-0 series lead over the Las Vegas Aces in the best-of-five WNBA semifinals.

The current Fever head coach is our No. 1 candidate to replace Brondello, at +500 ahead of former Sky coach Teresa Weatherspoon, while a trio of WNBA assistant coaches, in Briann January of the Fever (+650), Kristi Toliver of the Mercury (+750) and Rebekkah Brunson of the Minnesota Lynx (+800) round out the top of our Liberty head coaching odds board.

Who Else Could Replace Brondello?

While it’s hard to see her leaving Baton Rouge, it’s too soon to rule out the possible WNBA debut for four-time national champion Kim Mulkey, who is 122-20 (.859) during her four-year run with LSU after going 632-104 (.859) with the Baylor Bears.

Mulkey and the Tigers have slid a bit since they won it all in 2023, with matching 31-6 records that ended with defeats in the Elite Eight in 2024 (to Iowa) and 2025 (to UCLA), potentially inspiring the firebrand to try her luck in the professional ranks.

Two other NCAA legends, in South Carolina’s Dawn Staley (+1150) and Geno Auriemma of UConn (+1500) are next in line to replace Brondello in New York, though it’s hard to see either uprooting themselves from their comfy perches in Columbia and Storrs right now.

Longshot candidates to keep an eye on in New York include Dallas Wings assistant coach Nola Henry, who checks in at +1800 to replace Brondello, while two more WNBA assistants (Tanisha Wright of the Chicago Sky and Latricia Trammell of the Los Angeles Sparks) round out our Liberty head coaching odds board, with matching odds of +2000.
