After a pair of 7-10 seasons and a season on the trajectory of 7-10, Robert Saleh was fired as coach of the New York Jets. Defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich took over as interim coach and things got worse, culminating in a 5-12 campaign - especially bad considering the championship aspirations the franchise had with Aaron Rodgers at QB a defense filled with standouts.

The search is underway for a new head coach. Bookies.com veteran oddsmaker Adam Thompson has updated his NFL Odds as to who will be the next full-time Jets head coach.

2025 Jets Coach Top Candidates

The Jets wasted no time in interviewing potential head coaches, though they didn't jump on any of the quick meetings and one of them, Mike Vrabel, was scooped up by the rival Patriots.

Given the team's massive issues with the ball, despite an All-Star level of talent in the passing game especially, one would have to assume that a coach with an offensive background would be the preferred route. The Jets had a strong defense when healthy, but the offense was stagnant.

There are several first-time options that will be on every team’s radar in the off-season. Joe Brady, who leads the rivals' Bills offense as its coordinator, will command interviews with several vacancies once the Bills' season is over. The same goes for Texans OC Bobby Slowik, while Chiefs OC Matt Nagy is also getting consideration from the Jets.

Lions OC Ben Johnson and 49ers QB coach Brian Griese also could be on the shortlist.

Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn kept Detroit's D to an elite level despite losing multiple stars to season-ending injuries and will get serious consideration for head coach gigs.

Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy is suddenly a free agent and is expected to find a new job somewhere. Re-joining McCarthy and Rodgers, who won a Super Bowl together in Green Bay, could energize the fan base.

The Field includes defense-first coaches expected to make the interview circuit this off-season, including Broncos DC Vance Joseph and Vikings DC Brian Flores, in addition to Commanders OC Kliff Kingsbury
