Each NFL team has now had a taste of preseason action. Now it’s on to Week 2, and we can expect more starters getting more minutes.

In an effort to make NFL preseason football more interesting to fans, and more useful for teams, the league decreased the amount of exhibitions from four games to three, and increased the time between the final one and Week 1 of the regular season

So many of the major players we'll see when the 2024 NFL betting season officially gets underway will get at least some action for Week 2.

All 32 teams are in action from Aug. 15-18. Bookies.com veteran NFL handicapper Adam Thompson has surveyed the lineups and revealed his top three plays for the start of the preseason:

Best Bets For NFL Preseason Week 2

Bookies.com NFL expert handicapper Adam Thompson, who has hit on 62-64% of his picks in each of the last three seasons, reveals his top NFL picks for NFL Preseason Week 2. His NFL Week 1 preseason picks went 2-1 (66.7%).

First off, never bet the bank on any NFL preseason action. Winning takes a backseat to grading and scouting personnel so the team will have the best 53 players on the roster come Week 1 of the regular season. That said, teams and coaches approach preseason differently, and that's where edges can be found on betting apps.

Patriots -2.5 Over Eagles

The Eagles bested the Ravens in Week 1, but Baltimore didn’t play any of its starters. Philly coach Nick Sirianni is just 3-6-1 ATS all-time in the preseason. Jalen Hurts didn’t play in Week 1 and probably won’t play here, either.

Meanwhile, like many new coaches, Jerod Mayo wants to send a statement of winning early on. The Pats handled the Panthers 17-3 in their opener. Expect more of a look for rookies Drake Maye and Joe Milton as Philly again goes through the motions.

Jaguars -3 Over Buccaneers

Jacksonville took it to Kansas City in the team’s preseason opener because of the play of its quarterbacks and defense. It’s a solid combo that again can be used in the Jaguars’ home preseason opener. Trevor Lawrence and Mac Jones make up one of the top 1-2 combos for first-and-second-half action, and C.J. Beathard isn’t bad either for a No. 3.

Baker Mayfield didn’t play in Week 1 and Kyle Trask was uninspiring. Mayfield has thrown for 240 yards in his last four preseason games combined, so don’t expect much here either.

Rams EVEN Over Chargers

The annual preseason battle for L.A. The Rams edged the Cowboys 13-12 in their opener while the Chargers didn’t do much of anything in a 16-3 loss to the Seahawks. Justin Herbert didn’t go for the Chargers, and the rest of the QB group posted a brutal 42.8 QB rating. Herbert won’t play again here as he tries to get ready for Week 1 (foot).

The Rams downed the Cowboys despite a 0-4 turnover ratio. Sean McVay goes all-in with reserves for the preseason. Stetson Bennett was the only QB to throw a pass. While Matthew Stafford won’t play again, Jimmy Garoppolo should see his first action with his new team. As the Chargers learn how to play under Jim Harbaugh, the Rams run as McVay wants them.
