It figures to be a low-scoring Olympic gold medal hockey game Sunday between the Russian Olympic Committee and Finland, as the two teams allowed just one combined goal in their semifinal matches Friday.

The showdown game between the defending champs (ROC) and the Finns probably will come down to - as it often does in championship hockey matches - goaltending.

The Finns shut out Slovakia 2-0 in their semifinal, assuring themselves of at least their third silver medal in Olympic history, while the ROC hopes to again wear gold in Beijing after beating Sweden 2-1 in a tense shootout match.

The ROC’s Ivan Fedotov and Finland’s Harri Sateri are likely to face each other in net for the gold, and both come in playing terrific hockey.

Men's Olympic Hockey Gold Medal Betting Analysis

Both teams have won with strong defense and goaltending, and that figures to be no different here. Sateri comes into the gold medal game having stopped 42 of the last 43 shots he’s faced, while Fedotov has allowed just one goal in each of his last two starts.

The ROC probably has a little more offensive firepower on its top two lines, but not by much. The Finns are fast and play a swarming defensive style that doesn’t allow opponents much time and space with the puck.

In the semifinal match against the Swedes, the Russians had some trouble skating through the neutral zone, and it won’t get any easier against the Finns.

Special teams will be important, as always. With scoring chances likely at a premium at even strength, it could come down to a power play or two to decide who gets gold and who gets silver.

Men's Olympic Hockey Gold Medal Prediction

Finland

Odds: -125

I predicted Finland would win gold before the tournament, so why would I change now? I think the Swedes got unlucky in the semifinal game, exposing a couple of flaws in the ROC’s offensive game.

The way Sateri is playing in goal for Finland, it’s tough to bet against him. I’ve been impressed by Finland’s relentless forecheck and defensive zone play, and while the Russians always seem to raise their game as the games get bigger, I think the Finns will be wearing gold when this one is over.

The pick: Finland on the moneyline.
