The College Football Playoff rankings will be released each Tuesday at 7 p.m. EDT for the rest of the regular season.

The newly expanded playoff field features 12 teams this season, up from 4. College football odds are available for the Natty. Ahead of the first poll, there are 4 remaining teams eligible for the playoff that are undefeated: Oregon, BYU, Miami and Indiana

The Ducks have been dominant in their first season in the Big Ten. The same holds for BYU in the expanded ACC. There are no longer any divisions in any of the major conferences. The conference title games will feature the top 2 teams in the conference determined by conference record. All tie-breakers will be applied using conference play only.

The four highest ranked conference champions (Big Ten, ACC, SEC, AAC, Big 12, Mountain West) will get the all-important bye in the first round of the playoffs.

The Big Ten and SEC will dominate the poll, at least for now.

College Football Playoff Rankings – Team-By-Team Analysis, Odds

1. Oregon 9-0 (+450)

Buzz: The Ducks have been dominant this season. Except against Ohio State. They outlasted the Bucks in a 32-31 thriller in Eugene. The Ducks have the balance every other team here lacks. They rank 11th nationally in yards per play on offense and defense.

2. Ohio State 7-1 (+350)

Buzz: The Bucks rolled into Happy Valley and shut down Penn State. That was one of the most important wins of the season and gives them an edge when it comes to determining the best of the rest.

3. Georgia 7-1 (+400)

Buzz: The Dawgs can be dominant, but they lack the end-to-end polish and consistency that helped them win back-to-back national titles. That was evident in their 41-34 loss to Alabama. But they’ve beaten both Texas and Clemson. That gives them an edge in the ranking.

4. Miami 9-0 (+1100)

Buzz: The undefeated Canes can be an offensive force. But they’re got too many liabilities elsewhere to be considered in the top 3. They’ve been 6 teams with winning records, but haven been tested in the ACC. They’ll have to win over the skeptics.

5. Texas 7-1 (+550)

Buzz: Some losses are better than others. Ohio State losing to Oregon. And Texas losing to Georgia. Both of those defeats will give either team the benefit of the doubt when it comes to being ranked against similar teams with the same number of losses. And could be the difference between a 1-loss team and a 2-loss getting into the playoff. Texas needs to win out to reach the SEC title game.

6. Penn State 7-1 (+2200)

Buzz: The Lions had their chance to all-but clinch a spot in the Big Ten title game, stay undefeated, and join Oregon at the top of this poll. But they blew it all in that loss to Ohio State. Yes, that loss will be a “good one” in the eyes of the committee. But it was very costly. A home game in the playoffs and a strong defense could make Penn State a threat come playoff time.

7. Tennessee 7-1 (+1800)

Buzz: Will there be a bias toward from the SEC and Big Ten here. Yes. That means team like BYU will have to run the table or win the Big 12 title game. Tennessee’s win over Alabama stands as the Vols’ golden ticket right now.

8. Indiana 9-0 (+3500)

Buzz: This isn’t basketball season. The Hoosiers have the weakest schedule of the field’s 4 unbeaten teams. It all comes down to their game at Columbus against the Buckeyes on Nov. 23.

9. BYU 9-0 (+10000)

Buzz: Just how good are the Cougars. Skeptics outside the Big 12 won’t be believers until BYU beats a top-tier team from the Big Ten or SEC. Their win over SMU was impressive . . . in the ACC.

10. Notre Dame 7-1 (+3000)

Buzz: The Irish toppled Texas A&M at College Station and bested Louisville, Navy and Georgia Teach  Who would have thought that Northern Illinois would be the team that sent Notre Dame on the road in the College Football Playoff. But given the cache that the Irish bring to the table, they land ahead of their unbeaten and in-state brethren Indiana.

11. Alabama 6-2 (+1800)

Buzz: The Crimson Tide will likely be the only 2-loss team in the poll this week. That’s what happens when you beat Georgia, despite losing at Vanderbilt. Bama’s loss to the Vols doesn’t hurt as much because of Tennessee’s likely ranking here.

12. Boise State 7-1 (+10000)

Buzz: Strength of schedule matters when 8 of the 12 teams here have at least 1 loss. The Broncos lack that key element here. They did push Oregon in their lone loss. But the wins are not impressive.

First Teams Out: SMU and Texas A&M.
