Big Ten Basketball Betting Odds: Which Contender Has Value?
The Big Ten race is totally up for grabs with the conference tournament in Indianapolis just two weeks away.
Who’s the favorite at Bankers Life Fieldhouse? Take your pick. Maryland has the shortest Big Ten title odds at +350 in futures betting markets, but Michigan State, Penn State, Iowa and Michigan aren’t far behind. It’s the deepest conference in the country as 11 teams still have a legitimate shot to make the NCAA Tournament. The bubble teams can still make or break their chances in Indianapolis, where a wide-open Big Ten will crown the last team standing.

Big Ten Betting Tips
Michigan State and Michigan have combined to win the last four Big Ten tournaments, with the Wolverines going back-to-back in 2017-18 and the Spartans getting it done in 2016 and 2019. Can they make it five? The Wolverines are trending up with big wins over Michigan State and Rutgers. January’s four-game losing streak is a distant memory and Michigan can measure up with anyone in conference.
Michigan State is heading the opposite direction, losing four of five in a critical late stretch. The Spartans are running out of time with four games left, all against ranked teams. But Tom Izzo has six Big Ten tournament banners and shines in one-and-done time. Don’t sleep on the value in both teams from Michigan entering Indianapolis.

Maryland has been the most consistent team in conference and held a two-game lead with four to play. The Terrapins are unbeaten at home with four Big Ten road losses and odds of +350 provide great value for a favorite. The question is whether they’re actually a step above the second tier. Maryland is just 2-7 in Big Ten tournament games since joining the conference in 2014, including years in which they finished second and third in the regular season.
This looks like the best team Mark Turgeon’s had, but Ohio State just proved it’s still beatable with a 79-72 win over the Terrapins in Columbus. Now is a great time to buy if you like the Terrapins, as those odds should change if Maryland holds on for the regular season title
The Big Ten tournament has been around for a while, now entering its 23rd year. Teams seeded fifth or lower have only won it three times and were shut out entirely from 2002-2016. Michigan is the only team ever at eighth or higher, winning in 2017 as the No. 8 seed. So, we know to ignore those juicy longshot college betting odds and focus on the top eight teams.
Top five or six, more realistically. Penn State (+400), Iowa (+600) and Michigan (+600) will be right in the sweet spot. Don’t reach on or Purdue (+2500) or Indiana (+3500). We’re looking at Illinois (+1100) and Wisconsin (+2500). Both teams remain very much in contention for a top-four seed and a crucial first-round bye.
