Tip 1 - 1:20 Cheltenham - Talk The Talk
The opening race of the 2026 Cheltenham Festival looks set to be a cracker with a number of runners all in with a genuine chance, but it’s Talk The Talk who gets the nod. The Joseph O’Brien horse won his Grade 1 trial at the Dublin Racing Festival last month, taking his hurdles record to three victories from four runs, and better ground should help him compared to the trudge that was Leopardstown.

Tip 2 - 2:00 Cheltenham - Lulamba
Three wins from three starts over fences, including the Grade 1 Henry VIII at Sandown and a Grade 2 in open company would suggest that Lulamba should be a very short-priced favourite. Instead, he’s battling it out with last year’s Supreme winner Kopek Des Bordes. Willie Mullins’ star has had just the one start over larger obstacles. For all that he’s a top notch horse himself, Lulamba’s added experience and proven stamina could count for a lot in what promises to be a frenetic race.

Tip 3 - 2:40 Cheltenham - Harwa (e/w)
Harwa has only ran once for his new yard, but that was a seriously impressive performance. He beat Springhill Warrior by the same distance Festival fancy I Started A Joke did when those two horses met. Harwa was getting weight rather than being off levels, but it was only his 3rd start under rules compared to I Started A Joke’s 7th, and Springhill Warrior had the benefit of that previous run under his belt. Running off just 132 here, Harwa looks like a much better horse than that.

Tip 4 - 3:20 Cheltenham - Quebecois
Paul Nicholls has clearly had his eye on the festival for Quebecois, who comes into this one with form figures of 2422 since switching to fences in November. He ran impressively at Cheltenham in January to lose by only a nose at 12/1 and followed that up with another second at Newbury last month, having struggled to adapt to soft ground that was far more testing than anticipated. Better ground here should suit him.

Tip 5 - 4:00 Cheltenham - Lossiemouth
Headgear on, heading for the Championship race, well backed in the lead up. It is all systems go for Loessiemouth to pick up the Champion Hurdle title she should have got last year. She might have been beaten by Brighterdaysahead last time out but this track and the going will suit Lossiemouth better than the other mare. The New Lion probably isn’t quite good enough to overcome the disadvantage of carrying an extra 7lb, and the rest of them aren’t good enough to get near her.

The one runner that fits the bill this year is Henry De Bromhead’s Zurich. What is the Staking Plan and How Does a 1pt Win System Work?
We advise each bet as a win single or sometimes as an each way single. You can of course choose to combine the selections in a multiple bet, a Lucky 15 or a Yankee etc and that is a very popular way to follow the horses selected in this column daily.
A 1pt win per horse is advised in general and that means whatever your normal stake is for a bet is used as a point. For many this is £1 and for some this is £10 or more but it is totally relative to the individual and shouldn’t be more than you can afford to lose at any time.
For each way selections we advise a 0.5pt each way stake. So as with the win selections this would be a £1 total bet (50 pence each way) or a £10 total bet (£5 each way).
