Tip 2 - 3:00 Catterick - Shadowfax of Rohan
Shadowfax of Rohan hasn’t shown the meaning of haste in a while now, having not even run for almost 250 days off the back of wind surgery in September and a recent change in trainer, but has generally fared well over 2m with lifetime form of 424939. Whilst this is his chase debut, he’s generally had no issues jumping over hurdles and a 79 rating combined with Charlie Maggs claiming 3lb makes him a serious contender.

A weak race here and one that Palawan Du Mazet may have at his mercy. He recorded a comfortable success last time out, scoring on heavy ground at Taunton. Tip 4 - 3:42 Newcastle - Grant Wood
There look to be a few contenders in this, but we think Grant Wood looks nicely handicapped to go well. Had a very disappointing time of things in the turf last year, but has always shaped better on the all-weather, with two wins and three places from eight starts. That run on turf has brought his rating down to a lowly 74. He has won over course and distance from 73 and also had career wins from 77 and 80. Running fresh hasn’t been a problem before, so he should go close.

What is the Staking Plan and How Does a 1pt Win System Work?
We advise each bet as a win single or sometimes as an each way single. You can of course choose to combine the selections in a multiple bet, a Lucky 15 or a Yankee etc and that is a very popular way to follow the horses selected in this column daily.
A 1pt win per horse is advised in general and that means whatever your normal stake is for a bet is used as a point. For many this is £1 and for some this is £10 or more but it is totally relative to the individual and shouldn’t be more than you can afford to lose at any time.
For each way selections we advise a 0.5pt each way stake. So as with the win selections this would be a £1 total bet (50 pence each way) or a £10 total bet (£5 each way).
