The 16-team Big 12 begins its second season in 2025. Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado, and Utah all joined the conference last year. 

Newcomer Arizona State was the biggest surprise of the college football season. The Sun Devils won the Big 12 Conference title game before losing to Texas 39-31 in double-OT in the College Football Playoff. The Sun Devils rolled against the spread. going 12-2 on the line. 

 

But the West Virginia Mountaineers will travel the most of any college football team the 16-school conference in 2024. West Virginia is scheduled to travel 11137.58 linear miles, as measured from stadium to stadium by bookies.com via Google Earth. Newcomer Arizona State is second on the Big 12 Miles Traveled list. The Sun Devils are scheduled to travel 10025.68 miles.

Oklahoma State travels the fewest miles of any Big 12 football team this season. The Pokes travel 4380.14 miles in six road trips.

The longest Big 12 road trip this season occurs when Utah visits UCF, north of Orlando, on Black Friday. That linear round trip for the Utes is 3840.24 miles. The shortest linear road trip within the conference is BYU’s annual intra-state game against Utah. Rice-Eccles Stadium and LaVell Edwards Stadium are just 36.2 miles apart. Cincinnati plays at Miami of Ohio in a non-conference game on September 14. Their home stadiums are 29.22 miles from each other. 

The Big 12 joins the ACC, Big Ten, and SEC as one of college football’s new “Power Four” conferences following the demise of the Pac-12. With the absorption of 4 new football schools, the Big 12 also revised its conference schedule and how it is compiled.

Until the end of Daylight Savings Time on Nov. 3, 2024, the Big 12 will cover all four time zones in the Continental U.S. DST is not observed in much of Arizona. Technically, the state remains in the Mountain Time Zone. But until the end of DST, Tempe and Tucson are three hours behind their counterparts in the Eastern Time Zone. Big 12 Football Realignment Details 

Each Big 12 team will have either five or six road trips this season. Four Big 12 teams begin play on Aug. 29. TCU visits ACC newcomer Stanford on Aug. 30. 

There are no divisions within the conference. The top two teams with the best conference record will advance to the Big 12 Championship game on Dec. 7. Conference play begins in Week 3 when UCF visits TCU on September 14. Baylor and Utah, along with Arizona and Kansas State, play in non-conference games as part of their preexisting agreements.
