In the land of college football betting, the dog is king. That’s why Bookies.com is teaming up with a different animal shelter each week throughout the season to find dogs in need of a loving home.

College football handicapper Dan Kilbridge will start by examining the college football spreads at sportsbooks and picking his favorite underdog to cover the spread or win straight up that week. We then connect with a shelter near that team’s campus to share one lovable dog who could complete your family huddle.

It’s all about cashing bets and rescuing pets with Dog of the Week.

The college football season is winding down, but the Dog of the Week is heating up with three dogs adopted already this year. Now we’re looking at two more winners this week – Colorado is a +16.5 underdog at UCLA on betting apps, and Bevo is a three-month-old German Shepard mix hoping to find a new home in the Rockies.

Before we dive in, good news to report: Hamburger, Bunny and Tanner, three dogs we’ve featured this year, have all been adopted. Fletcher, Billie Jean, Pollo, Riot, Monarch and Jerry, the other dogs we’ve featured, are still looking for a home. Let's get all these pups adopted.

The Pick: Colorado +16.5 over UCLA

Odds are current at publication. Betting sites may indicate odds changes closer to kickoff.

Colorado finally has some momentum. The Buffaloes are coming off one of their best performances of the season, a 37-34 overtime win over Oregon State, in which the Beavers tallied just 310 yards of offense.

That’s a trend we’ve seen from Colorado all season. Against the top offenses of the Pac-12 like Oregon, the Buffaloes are completely overmatched. But when facing lower-tier squads, the defense has held strong.

UCLA is not an offensive juggernaut. The Bruins are pretty solid, with balance, but they aren’t overwhelming opponents when they have the ball. Defensively, UCLA is giving up nearly 30 points per game and struggled massively against the run during a 44-24 loss to Utah two weeks ago in which the Utes ran for 290 yards.

Colorado’s offense is coming around and the Bruins aren’t exactly locked in defensively. The Buffaloes have also won three of the last five games in this matchup, including a 48-42 thriller last season in Boulder.

This is not going to be a pretty game. Both teams are flawed and well out of the conference race. But this isn’t as big of a mismatch as the line suggests. We’re taking the points and like Colorado +16.5. Bet on it at Caesars Sportsbook.

The Pup: Bevo

Are we not men? We are Bevo! This three-month-old German Shepard mix originally hails from Texas and is named after the Longhorns’ mascot. This irresistible pup was rescued off the streets in Houston before moving in with a Colorado foster family, and the reviews are off the charts. Bevo is great with other dogs, and loving and affectionate with humans. He’d love to find a permanent spot to settle down in Boulder.

You can find out more about Bevo at the Brighter Days Dog Rescue.
