In the land of college football betting, the dog is king. That’s why Bookies.com is teaming up with a different animal shelter each week throughout the season to find dogs in need of a loving home.

College football handicapper Dan Kilbridge will start by examining the college football spreads at sportsbooks and picking his favorite underdog to cover the spread or win straight up that week. We then connect with a shelter near that team’s campus to share one lovable dog who could complete your family huddle.

It’s all about cashing bets and rescuing pets with Dog of the Week.

Another Dog of the Week is off the board, with last week’s featured pup Tanner finding a happy home in Iowa City. Now we’ve got our eyes on two more winners – Maryland is a +10.5 underdog against Penn State on betting apps, and Jerry is an 11-month-old Siberian Husky Mix looking to find a new forever team.

Before we dive in, good news to report: Hamburger, Bunny and Tanner, three dogs we’ve featured this year, have all been adopted. Fletcher, Billie Jean, Pollo, Riot and Monarch, the other dogs we’ve featured, are still looking for a home. Let's get all these pups adopted.

The Pick: Maryland +10.5 over Penn State

Odds are current at publication. Betting sites may indicate odds changes closer to kickoff.

It’s tough to be a Nittany Lion these days. Thought to be a serious playoff contender just a few weeks ago ahead of a top-five matchup at Iowa, Penn State has dropped three straight ahead of Saturday’s game in College Park.

The Nittany Lions actually bounced back strong from an epic nine-overtime loss to Illinois and played Ohio State tough in last week’s 33-24 loss. But now the locker room is deflated, the season-long goals are up in smoke and motivation is low with a frisky Terps team waiting to build on last week’s 38-35 win over Indiana.

Maryland quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa has struggled with turnovers while racking up otherwise impressive stats, including 2,384 passing yards and 17 touchdowns. He went off for 419 yards last week against a decent Hoosiers secondary and has gone two straight games without an interception.

Penn State’s offensive numbers also look like fools gold at this point. The Nittany Lions have only surpassed 400 yards in one Big Ten game, picking up 408 yards against Indiana. Their biggest offensive showings came in blowout wins over Ball State and Villanova. Maryland’s defense isn’t very good, but these Nittany Lions don’t exactly light it up on offense.

The Terps should be able to move the ball behind Tagovailoa, and Maryland will come in confident after a 35-19 win at Penn State last season. This isn’t as big of a mismatch as some might think, and we’ll gladly take 10.5 points for a home game against the humbled Lions. Bet on it with Caesars Sportsbook.

The Pup: Jerry

Jerry is an 11-month-old Siberian Husky with tons of upside. The 53-pound pup from Greenbelt, MD is very affectionate and follows basic commands well. He’s social and gets along well with other dogs, and he’s a well-behaved companion for car rides or just playing around the house.

You can find out more about Jerry at the Partnership for Animal Welfare.
