In six pro seasons with the Washington Commanders, wide receiver Terry McLaurin has gained at least 1,000 yards in five of them, hasn’t missed a game in four years, and is coming off probably his best overall campaign, including 13 TDs. He was named second-team All-Pro in 2024 for his efforts.
But he wants to get paid like it. McLaurin is in the second year of a contract that pays him $24.1 million this season and $25.5 million next year. He wants more money and more years, and the Commanders are balking.
Bookies.com veteran oddsmaker Adam Thompson has revealed his NFL picks as to where McLaurin ends up for 2025. Stick with Bookies for the Best NFL Betting Apps throughout the season.

McLaurin will be a free agent after this season, but with Washington unwilling to shell out more than $30 million annually as part of a long-term extension, the WR has requested a trade.
NFL trade requests are the new holdouts for players and their agents. Instead of sitting out, getting fined for missing action, and potentially sabotaging one’s career (read: Le’Veon Bell), players are requesting to get moved. Micah Parsons has done the same in Dallas.
Washington has stated it has no intention of trading McLaurin, so the Commanders are the strong favorites to retain the two-time Pro Bowler, if only for one more year.
Washington’s cap room isn’t much, opening the doors for other teams to make an offer the Commanders can’t refuse. Roughly half of the league’s teams have $25 million in available cap space for this coming season, so McLaurin could be a big boost for a team in need of a WR1. Of course, it likely must also be willing to lock him up long-term.
The New England Patriots have every incentive to see if McLaurin really is available. The Pats are flush with cap space – $60 million for this season alone – and in major need of finding a top target for up-and-coming QB Drake Maye. The team added veteran Stefon Diggs, but McLaurin would adds a new dimension to the offense.
The Pittsburgh Steelers are going all-in this year with Aaron Rodgers. Each team has subpar receiving corps, and both have the salary cap space to make it work right now.
The San Francisco 49ers have cash to spend and Deebo Samuel to replace. Adding McLaurin to the likes of Brandon Aiyuk, Christian McCaffrey and George Kittle has to be a dream to Brock Purdy.
The Los Angeles Chargers have a No. 1 weapon in the pass game, but then it drops off considerably. The Las Vegas Raiders also can make it work financially, and have no bona fide big dog to catch passes.
The Buffalo Bills desperately want to add as pass-catching weapon for Josh Allen, but Allen makes so much money, it’s been tough to bring one in. Buffalo is a dark horse to do something big, however.
