Barstool North Carolina Promo Code: What to Know About A 2023 Launch

Although North Carolina offers retail sports betting at a pair of tribal casinos in its western corner, the state has not yet legalized mobile sports wagering—a fact that nearly changed last year, and may finally be reversed by lawmakers in the state capitol in 2023.

While several U.S. states celebrated the passage of sports betting laws in 2022, North Carolina sports betting fell one vote short of advancing a bill in its General Assembly. The state’s Senate voted 51-50 in June of 2022 to reject a measure that would have established rules to authorize and regulate mobile sports betting in North Carolina.

After coming so close last year, lawmakers supporting the measure have vowed to try again.

North Carolina Sports Betting Update

Mobile sports betting “is something I believe has the support of the majority of both chambers,” state Senate president pro tempore Phil Berger, a Republican, told WCNC-TV of Charlotte. "It is something the public overall supports. If you have a telephone, you already have access to it. You're not supposed to, but it's there.”

Although last year’s effort fell apart due to concerns by opponents over addiction and cybercrime, pressure grows on the Old North State as more and more U.S. jurisdictions approve mobile sports betting measures. Twenty-three states offered legal mobile sports betting as of February 2023, among them North Carolina’s neighbors Tennessee and Virginia, More are coming, pending regulation and licensing.

So the clock is clearing ticking on North Carolina, with approval seeming likely after last year’s close call. And when mobile sports betting becomes legal in the Old North State, expect Barstool Sportsbook to be a player in a market that’s crazy about its college sports.

And when it does, you can expect Barstool North Carolina to be one of the top North Carolina betting apps.

When Will Barstool Come to North Carolina?

North Carolina has allowed retail sports betting at its two tribal casinos only since 2019, so the state doesn’t exactly move quickly when it comes to sports wagering. The current effort to legalize mobile sports wagering has been underway since April of 2021, when a Senate bill was filed that would have allowed between 10 and 12 betting apps to operate in the state. Over a year later, in June of 2022, an amended version of that bill perished after failing a second reading.

So indeed, this could take some time. The state General Assembly meets for a regular session which ends in June during every odd-number year (hello, 2023) and then gathers for a shorter session in even-numbered years.

So the current effort to legalize mobile sports betting in North Carolina could absolutely stretch into 2024, depending on the degree of resistance and when a bill is passed (North Carolina has until August 31 to pass a bill; if it runs that late into the summer, a launch likely won't happen until early 2024).

Barstool North Carolina Promo Code

Although Barstool Sportsbook may take the name of the New York-based media company, it’s operated by Penn Entertainment, which has been a major player on the U.S. gaming scene for nearly half a century.

Founded in 2020, Barstool Sportsbook was active in 13 states as of February 2023, and would seem a natural fit for North Carolina given the state’s fervor for college sports and masses of young professionals in Charlotte and Raleigh.

What would a Barstool Sportsbook promo code offer look like in North Carolina?

While we can’t know for certain until if and when the state nears a launch date, but we can say for certain that it will be one of the most competitive North Carolina promo codes available when sports betting launches.

Barstool Sportsbook’s standard welcome offer has been a “new player bonus” of up to $1,000. How does that work? If a customer’s first bet loses, they’ll receive their stake back in sportsbook bonus credits, up to the maximum amount of $1,000. The promo code offer is available to any Barstool customer who hasn’t yet made a deposit—setting it apart for competitors that exclude anyone who’s already registered for an account.

Bonus funds at Barstool expire after 30 days, and can be withdrawn after they’re played through once using lines of -200 or longer.

This Barstool promo code offers some real perks for first-time users, given that it excludes only those who’ve already made a deposit, its bonus bets have a more favorable 30-day term of expiration, and its play-through requirements are shorter than what you’ll find at many competing sportsbooks. And hopefully, it’s a deal that sports bettors in North Carolina will be able to take advantage of soon.

Top Features Of Barstool North Carolina

It’s no surprise the Barstool Sportsbook betting app is so popular, given the media company’s wealth of loyal (and largely male) fans. But it doesn’t hurt that Penn Entertainment has also produced a very good mobile platform with an easy-to-navigate layout and intuitive feel. While the product is clearly geared toward Barstool faithful, users in North Carolina will find that it’s also loaded with enough betting options to satisfy even a non-Stoolie.

Barstool North Carolina Pros + Cons

Pros
Solid welcome bonus
Excellent user experience via the website and the app
Strong coverage of many different sports
Cons
Some established rivals have better welcome deals
No 24/7 customer support

The Barstool Sportsbook app in particular makes it very easy to deposit and withdraw funds and place wagers on the go. Users can make deposits through cards, electronic wallets and bank transfers, while withdrawals are typically processed within 24 hours. Barstool also boasts a live chat customer service option that’s available to customers 24/7—something not even all the industry’s big boys can claim.

While the Barstool company gets lots of attention for the antics of characters like El Presidente and Big Cat, make no mistake: North Carolina residents will one day discover that the sportsbook of the same name is a solid product loaded with features and betting options, and can even stand up against industry heavy-hitters with more recognizable sports betting brands.

Alternatives to the Barstool North Carolina Promo Code

Barstool Sportsbook certainly won’t be the only betting app launching in North Carolina when sports wagering is eventually legalized in the Old North State. The industry’s four biggest names—DraftKings, FanDuel, BetMGM and Caesars Sportsbook—are almost certain to jump in as well, with all of them bringing different promo code offers.

DraftKings is likely to offer its introductory deal that awards $200 in bonus bets for an initial $5 wager. The bonus is paid as eight bonus bets worth $25 each, and they are valid for seven days.

FanDuel is almost certain to extend its “No Sweat First Bet” offer, which has traditionally meant a returned stake for a lost initial wager up to a maximum of $1,000. The platform hiked that max to $3,000 in early 2023, though it’s unsure how long that deal will be around. The deal requires a $20 minimum deposit, and bonus fund expire after 14 days.

BetMGM is likely to offer in North Carolina its first-bet deal up to $1,000. Once a first wager is placed, customers receive bonus bets equal to the amount wagered if the bet loses, up to a maximum of $1,000.

Anything less than a $50 bet will return a single bonus bet in the amount of the initial wager, while an initial bet over $50 will return five bonus bets each worth 20% of the original stake. The bonus bets are available for seven days, and cannot be redeemed for cash.

And last but not least is Caesars Sportsbook, which has been offering new users a similar first-bet protection program, with the maximum values ranging from $1,000 to $1,500 depending on the state. The offer requires a bonus code, and Caesars bet credits are good for 14 days.

Those are unlikely to be the only promo code offers for North Carolina—should the state allow between 10 and 14 operators as referenced in the 2022 bill, sports bettors in the Old North State will have even more options to choose from.
