There are a huge number of betting markets to consider when planning to wager on the NFL, but how do you know the best NFL bets this weekend? Bettors can wager the moneyline, parlay, tease bets, against the spread and so much more. Let's go over the most common bets placed by NFL bettors so that if you are new to betting, you'll know what we are talking about when we share our best NFL picks this week. Best NFL Picks Against the Spread
The most popular bet when wagering on the NFL is betting against the spread (ATS). The spread is what oddsmakers use to try to "level" the playing field between two teams. When making NFL picks against the spread, bettors wager on the margin of victory (or margin of defeat) rather than on the outright winner.
The goal by oddsmakers is to set a spread that will encourage an equal betting on both sides. For the favorite to cover the spread, they must win by more than the number of points listed. Likewise, the underdog must not lose by more than the number of points listed. Of course, an underdog winning outright would also mean the spread is covered. Here is an example of what betting against the spread might look like at your favorite online sportsbook:
In this scenario, the Packers are favored over the Bears. For the Packers to cover the spread, they would need to win by more than 3 points. For the Bears to cover, they would need to win outright or lose by no more than 3 points. In both cases, the payout is the same (-110). However, that is not always the case as some sports betting sites will have slightly different spreads or odds.

NFL Picks Straight Up
Another way to bet on the NFL on the best sports apps, or from a desktop, is to bet games straight up, otherwise known as on the moneyline. This is a simple bet as a bettor wagers on whether a team will win a game. These bets are a little less popular as the payout is not as good when betting on the favorite. However, a moneyline bet on an underdog could prove to be extremely profitable. Here is an example of what a moneyline bet may look like in the NFL.
Because the Seahawks are the underdog in this game, we see a (+) number on the moneyline. That means that a $100 bet would payout $125. For the Cardinals, we see a (-) sign next to their name. That means that a bettor would need to place a $150 wager to win $100. Moneyline odds differ from site to site, so be sure to shop around for the best prices before placing a bet.
There are several strategies out there for best picking the moneyline, but a simple one is looking at how teams perform at home and on the road. Home teams win most games in the NFL, but there are a few teams that are better at home than most. Likewise, there are teams across the NFL who have exceptionally good records on the road. Over / Under Free NFL Picks
Another common way to bet on the NFL is to bet on the over/under. In every game, oddsmakers set a number of points that will be scored in a game. NFL Parlay Picks
One of the best parts of NFL betting is how easy it is to place parlay bets with huge payouts. A parlay bet is when two or more NFL bets are combined into a single ticket (or bet) with increased payouts. Parlay bets can contain multiple against the spread, moneyline or over/under bets. It's important to note that for a parlay bet to win, all legs of the parlay must hit. If not, the entire bet is deemed a loss.
Here is an example of what a three-team NFL parlay bet might look like and the potential payout:

- Ravens +6 over Browns (-110)
- Parlay Odds: +1,120
In this three-team parlay, a $100 bet would return $1,120. What makes parlays appealing is their potential for a bigger payout. The more teams/bets added to a parlay can greatly increase the potential winnings, but it also makes the bet less likely to happen. A teaser bet is like a parlay bet as players combine two or more bets into a single ticket. Like a parlay, all legs of the teaser bet must hit for the ticket to be deemed a "WIN" for the player. The biggest difference in a teaser bet is that the odds are lowered to make each bet more likely to hit. This decreases the potential payout but makes hitting multiple bets far more likely.
