The Patriots are coming off a 41-point win over the Jets in Week 7 and are looking to get back in the playoff race in the AFC. Rookie QB Mac Jones is playing outstanding and the offense is finally starting to come together. But they will be tested in Week 8 against the Los Angeles Chargers, who are coming off a bye week.

With the Raiders sitting at 5-2, the Chargers need to win this game to keep pace in the division. They also need to stay ahead of the Chiefs, who have been slumping. Can they get a win against a well-coached Patriots team at home?

To get you ready for this AFC matchup, here is everything you need to know from an NFL betting perspective going into Week 8.

Check out the latest Chargers vs. Patriots odds ahead of the matchup in Week 8.

Patriots vs. Chargers Key Matchups

Patriots RT Michael Onwenu vs. Chargers DE Joey Bosa: Onwenu is filling in at right tackle for Trent Brown and will be tasked with blocking Bosa one-on-one on the edge.

Chargers WR Keenan Allen vs. Patriots CB JC Jackson: This is best-on-best. Allen is the No. 1 receiver for Justin Herbert and Jackson is the best cover guy for New England.

Patriots TE Hunter Henry vs. Chargers FS Derwin James: Henry will get a chance to face off against his former team for the first time in his career. He’s caught a touchdown in four straight games for the Patriots.

Patriots vs Chargers Player Props

Chargers WR Keenan Allen Over 65.5 Receiving Yards

Odds: -115 at DraftKings

Slot cornerback Jonathan Jones was put on the injured reserve list this week, and that means Allen should have a big advantage in this contest. Look for rookie Myles Bryant to cover him from the slot, but Allen will have a big size advantage here.

Chargers QB Justin Herbert to Throw Over 0.5 INTs

Odds: -115 at DraftKings

Herbert threw two interceptions in his last meeting against the Patriots as Bill Belichick was able to confuse him. Look for the Patriots defense to step up once again and find a way to pick off the star sophomore quarterback.

Patriots RB Damien Harris + Chargers RB Austin Ekeler Over 1.5 Combined TDs

Odds: +175 at DraftKings

Harris has firmly established himself as the go-to back in New England, and he is who they rely on near the goal line. Ekeler should see a ton of work in this game as both players should be a lock to each the end zone at least once.

Patriots vs. Chargers Moneyline

In their meeting last season, the Patriots won 45-0 at Los Angeles against the Chargers. It was one of the most dominating performances you will ever see. However, Justin Herbert has grown a lot since that game and the Chargers are just a much better team. They are well-coached and they have multiple ways to be successful on offense.

Still, it’s tough to ever bet against Bill Belichick. The Chargers on the moneyline have odds around -225 or -250, depending on the site. That’s just not enough value in this game. Pass on the moneyline in favor of the point spread.

Patriots vs. Chargers Point Spread

With Mac Jones playing much better for the Patriots, it does feel like they can hang with just about any team in the NFL. They took the Cowboys to overtime and nearly beat the Buccaneers in New England. However, look for the Chargers to bounce back in a big way this week after being embarrassed by the Ravens in Week 6.

The Chargers just have too many weapons on offense for the Patriots to stop and they shouldn’t have any problem slowing down New England’s offense. However, this is one of the more difficult NFL spreads of the week as this could easily be a close game that comes down to the final possession.

Still, take the Chargers to cover the 5.5 point spread (-110) on DraftKings, but be sure to shop around for the best odds on your betting apps and sportsbooks.

Patriots vs. Chargers Totals

The Patriots have scored at least 25 points in three straight games, which is a big improvement from the first four weeks of the season. If they can replicate that success in this one, the over should hit with ease. We know how explosive the offense for the Chargers can be and their lack of a run defense allows teams to move the ball up and down the field.

Both teams have been really good in the red zone this season, which means we should see several touchdowns and not a lot of field goals in this contest. Take the Over 48.5 (-110) on FanDuel and expect a 31-24 type of game in Los Angeles.
