Tennessee Titans bettors who had to endure watching Stephen Gostkowski miss four kicks in the team’s 16-14 win over the Denver Broncos Monday night will be getting a reprieve from PointsBet.

All Titans backers who had single spread bets (-2.5 or -3) in full were refunded by the PointsBet “Karma Kommittee” after Gostkowski shanked three field goals and an extra point in Tennessee’s victory. Before kickoff, more than 80% of NFL betting tickets and about 65% of the money was on Tennessee to cover, according to PointsBet.

“Being bettor friendly has always been a staple of the PointsBet philosophy,” PointsBet Communications Director Patrick Eichner said in an email. “When we first entered New Jersey in 2019, we made a name for ourselves by refunding all bettors on the wrong side of the blown pass interference call in the Saints-Rams NFC Championship game. We’ve never wavered from that mentality.”

Gostkowski entered the Week 1 matchup as the NFL’s fifth most-accurate field goal kicker in the history of the league (87.4%). He dropped to ninth after his third miss but managed to take the eighth spot (86.06%) after his winning 25-yard field goal with 17 seconds left in the game.

According to Next Gen Stats, Gostkowski had a 1 in 1,804 chance (0.06%) of missing three field goals and at least one extra point.

“He missed three field goals — something he’d never done before in his 15-year NFL career — and an extra point, leaving 10 points on the board,” Eichner said. “It’s only right for PointsBet to have the back of bettors who took Tennessee.”

More on PointsBet

This is the most expensive Good Karma Payout PointsBet has ever done. A Good Karma Payout provides bettors relief in the event of unlikely circumstances that sway the fate of the game.

Currently, PointsBet is available in the U.S. in Indiana, Iowa, New Jersey and Illinois. It went live in Illinois on Saturday in time for Sunday’s NFL games and says it will soon be active in Colorado.

PointsBet features a unique sports betting option called “Points Betting.” According to its website, Points Betting allows a bettor to win or lose based on the outcome of the wager. Therefore, if a wager is won by one point, a bettor would win 1x the original wager. The same multiplier would be used for the total point differential. Losing a wager works the same way, with the point difference multiplier being used to calculate a bet’s loss.
